Dubbed ‘The original craft beer’, this dangerously drinkable legend has been in the family since 1899, when Tom, the old brewery cat, was sketched into immortality by Robinsons’ Head Brewer as he waited for the ale to ferment. 120 years on and it’s still the same great tasting ale, brewed to the same award-winning recipe. Rich, malty and warming, Old Tom has a distinctive deep port wine finish, with bitter hops balanced by the heady aromas of dark fruit.

Clear dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, bread crust, red fruits and alcohol. Bitter flavour, roasted and burned malts, bit sweet notes. Finish roasted malts, chocolate, caramel and bitter roasted malts. Bit too alcoholic for the weather (37 C in sunny Ljubljana) but a great beer nonetheless.

330 mL bottle. Pours a clear dark red color with a thin creamy tan head. Lots of evident carbontion. Good head retention. Dark caramelly aroma with some raisin and faint earth and anise. The taste is raisin, caramel, burnt sugar, soy, anise, mild herbal, citrus hops and a faint tea note. Medium bodied with a slight lingering bitterness. Tasty beer.

Dark brown colour. Aroma has pleasant dark malts. Flavour has initial rich, warming alcoholic feel like a fortified wine. Bittersweet malts. Long, dry woody finish with hints of choclate in the back of the throat. A sipper.

Sample from tap (not cask!), CBF 2013. Dark, reddish amber-golden colour with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good apperance. Sweet aroma with overripe, sweet fruits, licorice, caramel and toasted malts. Taste is sweet. Full body, somewhat oily. Finishes dry with sweet, overripe fruits. A hint of alcohol. Very nice "old one".

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE May 14, from Alko, 20130524) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized, long lasting and lightly brown. Aroma had molasses, sweetness and roasted malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were caramell, mildlty roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter. A tasty beer with some harshness without which the beer would have been better.

Wspaniałe piwo. Tradycyjne, mocne, harakterne i owocowo słodkawe w smaku. Wyczywałem w tej słodyczy jakby melasę, przyprawy. Finisz rozgrzewający i pieprzowy, z akcentami nut dobrego Porto. Kolor ciemno-rubinowo-czerwony ze średnią i kremową pianką. Polecam

Bottle from Sainsburys, Lee, SE London shared with Niller - Dark brown pour with a beige head. Dark fruits and sweet caramel malt are most prominent with a good boozy finish. For some reason was not expecting much with this but pretty decent drop this.
