330ml bottle. Dark brown amber colour, foam tan head and a malty, fruity aroma. Taste is a rich sweetish biscuity malt, dark fruit, raisins with a slight chocolate note and some bitterness. Medium bodied, low carbonation, with a warming bitter finish. Quite OK.

330ml bottle. Clear chestnut brown colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Dark malty aroma with a touch of toffee. Taste is minimally sweet dark malty, notes of caramel, toffee, later also a touch of treacle. Not that impressive...

A nutty flavor with nice bitterness, and a bit sour. Hazel brown in color with a lasting creamy head.

330 ml bottle from my friend from Aberdeen. Nose is bigtime bubblegum, golden raisins, and a flowery note. Clear brown with a small beige head. Flavor is light toffee, a little roast, and a tiny bit of bitterness.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, L1298 bottle code. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, toffee, molasses, raisin, apple, toast, dark bread, light nuttiness, earth, pepper, herbal, and light phenolic esters. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, dark bread, chocolate, apple, raisin, light nuttiness, earth, toffee, and light herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, dark fruit, apple, toast, biscuit, earth, toffee, nuttiness, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of flavors; almost no cloying flavors present on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good old ale. Nice flavor complexity, robustness, and balance; very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Dark brown, slightly reddish pour with a thin white head and broken lace. Aroma of toasted buttery malt and not much else! I guess that’s enough on it’s own though :-) The flavour is rather bitter with malty liqourice notes that hits the palate right away. A supreme rich winter ale that fully deserves its rating.

Bottle at home. Clear red-brown beer with a small brown head. Aroma heavy malty (caramel, roasted, fruit), notes of alcohol. Flavor heavy sweet. Almost full body, some alcohol. Nice, but somehow a bit boring. I have actually had this can’t add anymore than the previous reviewer.
