Dubbed ‘The original craft beer’, this dangerously drinkable legend has been in the family since 1899, when Tom, the old brewery cat, was sketched into immortality by Robinsons’ Head Brewer as he waited for the ale to ferment. 120 years on and it’s still the same great tasting ale, brewed to the same award-winning recipe. Rich, malty and warming, Old Tom has a distinctive deep port wine finish, with bitter hops balanced by the heady aromas of dark fruit.

Clear dark ruby red some head. Lovely complex aroma with cherries, banana, cough syrup, candy. Full bodied with nice fine carbonation. Lovely complex rich taste - raisins, spice, alcohol. Awesome beer.

0.33l bottle from CrackedKettle. Hmm.. "Voted the world's best ale" you say? Well, then I guess this could be nice! Anyhow, it pours a dark dark ruby/mahogany red body fully packed with lots of unfiltered dark floaters and a nice lightly tanned bubbly head. Aroma has dark fruits, it's sweet and malty with notes of some plums - almost like a quad in some ways. Average carbonation, medium-bodied and it has a mild and oily mouthfeel. Flavors are quite interesting! You have the sweetness with both dark lightly burned caramel combined with a nice yeast-fruity note. Also there are some strong notes of burned wood, some rubber (in a good almost sherry-like way), hints of dry chocolate and it ends with a lasting burned finish and it has a nice and quite warming alco-note in the aftertaste. Yeah, perhaps not the best in the world, but I really enjoyed this one! A worthy beer to celebrate that Brann (local football team) has just now gone to the cup final!

Very nice dark red brown color, but the smell and taste are pretty average. Good carbo and body make it a nice beer, but not a top beer.

Lovely bottle. I tasted some caramel, chocolate, maybe even coffee. Decent beer with an average score.

Wow! 12/12/12/13/11/13

330mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, deep dark amber with a tiny beige head. Aroma of toffee, English malts and dark fruits. Flavour is somewhat liqueur-like, with toffee, dark fruits and caramel malts - quite brandy- / sherry-like. Quite nice indeed.

Ruby-accented brown. The aroma has dried fruits, light alcohol, wood, fruitcake and marzipan. Strong, with a full malty palate (toffee, dark fruits, earthy nuances) and a fairly intense finish with mild alcohol notes. Yummy nightcap beer.

the most interesting thing about this is how subtle it is. dark amber, not black, not thick, its very lean, the abv is extremely well hidden in the flavor which is of roasted malts, a little hop spiciness, some dark fruit, very easy to drink, very enjoyable indeed.
