Dubbed ‘The original craft beer’, this dangerously drinkable legend has been in the family since 1899, when Tom, the old brewery cat, was sketched into immortality by Robinsons’ Head Brewer as he waited for the ale to ferment. 120 years on and it’s still the same great tasting ale, brewed to the same award-winning recipe. Rich, malty and warming, Old Tom has a distinctive deep port wine finish, with bitter hops balanced by the heady aromas of dark fruit.

Botttle, Uddingston (bought at ASDA , Hamilton), 2009-12-21 AR: Fudgey, perfume, fruity sweetness. AP: dark maber body, pinkish 2 cm laasting head - wee bubbles. F. Fudgey, red fruits, a bit much sprity feeling to start with .... A bit like Samichlaus or Yrthel Quadrupel - that I had some days ago (not rated yet, do!).... Getting better and better, don’t start the night with a high alcoholic %!

Bottle: Clear, mahagony coloured, small and stable beige head; dark malt with traces of molasses and a good dash of port in the nose; solid bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied; dried fruits, chocolate and warming cough-syrup in the lingering robust bitter-sweet finish. A bit harsh, but all in all a fine brew........

Bottle. Deep red pour with small head. Dark fruity aroma. Tastes sweet, dark fruits, port like. I have had this on draught too, quite boozy. I rather like it, well done Old Tom, a saucer of milk awaits!

Bottle, best before Nov. 08. Near black with orange and a tall tan head. Winey, caramel aroma with port, dark dried fruits (raisin, fig). Sweet yet mellow and smooth. Flavor of roasted malts, dreid fruits. Very roasty and bitter with with sweet caramel as well. Alcohol noticeable, with a bitter coffee finish. Nice but rather bland. Not up to expectations.
