25.4 oz oilcan. Aroma is Sweet Tarts candy, adjunct grain. Nice looking beer--for about 5-10 minutes. Amber hue. Pillowy, thick, rocky head. It dissipates in about a minute. Towards the end of the glass, no residue at all remains, making it look flatter than an Olympic gymnast’s breasts. Taste is malty, watery, grainy. It’s like an English pale, only watered down. Lots of carbonation. Thin body. It starts off with a little character (not a whole lot) and ends as bland as any run of the mill macro swill.

The only reason I purchased this beer was because it cost six dollars for a six pack and I haven’t had it yet. Hence, I apologize to the beer gods for offending them with this shameful purchase. There was a part of me that was hoping that this beer would actually be good... or at least like a blonde ale with a yeasty character. Unfortunately, this beer was not those things. Well, I take it back. The first one I had wasn’t bad. Poured an orange color with a mediocre looking head... aroma of corn, light hops, and macrosmell. Taste roughly the same. First one tasted a little bready and was refreshing (pleasantly surprised). The next one started tasting more and more like pale lager macrotaste. I guess I was just thirsty and it was refreshing the first time, but each subsequent time the taste managed to get worse and worse.

Pours clear copper with off white head. Malty aroma with some grassy hops. Slightly sweet malt flavor with a little hop bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation. Not bad for a macro and definately better than their lager.

750 mL "oil can." Fuck, these oil cans make the initial pour difficult. Um... well... the initial pour is clear amber with 3/4 of the glass being head. Decent head retention and nice lacing. Corny aroma with some sublte leafy hop notes. Taste is bitter hops, caramel and lots of corn. A very nice effort from Foster’s, but it still has that macro thing going on. It is better than Bud American Ale, so, it has that going for it.

Can on 07/12/2008. Very clear amber body with a huge frothy off-white head that persists. Caramel and earthy hop aroma with some earthy malt hints. Mild caramel, earthy malts, floral, spicy and earthy hop flavors with a mild bitter finish. Medium light body with high carbonation.

Revised rating, 1-28-08 Drunk from the oil can, this is a much more interesting beer. Less skunk, less cabbage, and a nice sharp bitterness. For such a commonly available beer, there are not a lot of ratings, so let’s encourage a few more. Original rating: 6-25-07 .75 L [that’s 24.5 oz] "oil can," made in Canada. First off, these Foster’s Oil Cans are not designed for pouring into a glass without dribbling over. Okay. Coppery pale ale color, decent half-inch head, busy streams of bubbles. Cooked cabbage smell, though. Taste may actually be intended more toward our idea of a Bitter than a Pale Ale. Either way, it’s sorely underdone. For its color, it still tastes less hearty than some Pilsners I’ve known. Nothing distinguishing about its bitterness. Intended as a lower-alcohol session beer, I suppose, but thin taste does not invite lingering over it. I feel as though I could slam the whole can and not remember having tasted anything an hour later.

Brewed and canned in Canada (25.4 oz). Light grassy, hoppy aroma. Clear amber color with a creamy off-white head. Starts with a malty flavor that is somewhat balanced towards the finish by hop. Better than any mass produced common American products.

The term bitter gets thrown around in the cheap beer world - this is no exception. I found more of a malts presence here, with some yeast and light hops as well. Pour is much darker than expected, but the lack of a defined taste makes it an underacheiver.
