In the nose is sweet bourbon, with soft sugar and malt, hints of cocoa and mild roast. The flavor is layers upon layers of malt, bourbon, and a mix of dark dried stone fruits coated in dark chocolate. The body of this dark, looming brew is full and coating, which begs for sipping and savoring. The finish on this unique lager is exactly what you don’t get from all the big, barrel aged beers out there...the crisp and clean lager finish the Wolverine State Brewing Co. is known for.
Each sip of Massacre brings a new experience and with a rich aged cheddar, or creamy aged gouda the hidden secrets of Massacre can be released. Each bottle of Massacre was hand-dipped by one of Wolverine State’s staff members, from the brewers, to the kitchen staff, to the bar staff, everyone at Wolverine had a hand in this year’s Massacre. We hope you enjoy this lager as much as we enjoyed getting it to you.

2016 bottle drunk 1/2/23. Clear dark mahogany. Beige head to ring. Chocolate bourbon, melanoidin, with vanilla and toast. Light alcohol and spice with moderate fruitiness. Soft and fruity, lots of bourbon, chocolate vanilla, spice, fruit. Fig, prune, raisin. Nicely attenuated, lots of bourbon. Hell of a lager, pushing it on the bourbon but in great shape for almost 7 years old.

2021 bottle from Livonia Liquor. Pours a dark brown to black with a finger of beige head that lingers. Lovely aromas of toffee, molasses and black sugar. Bourbon and vanilla as it warms. Palate is very similar. Very drinkable for the ABV with lots of depth from the bourbon barrels. Very enjoyable.

12oz bottle at share.Muddy brown pour with a small beige head. Seemingly like a stout, roast malts and chocolate filter up first, followed by some brown sugar and bourbon. Taste is more roast, boozy and a bit more stout-ish than a dopplebock, but still great.

Bottle at Black Christmas 2018
Dark brown colour. Light tobacco in the aroma. Intense dark malt character, sweet, dark caramel, treacle, many Imperial Stouts don't even have this depth. Warming alcohol.
Excellent.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel and a touch of dark fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of toasted caramel, dark fruits, and bready malt. Cohesive and complex. Wonderful dark fruitiness on the finish. Excellent.
