Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Bottle, 12oz. It’s a clear, pale golden drink with a dense, two-finger, off-white to white head. Some lacings occur. That’s where the good part stops. The aroma is more or less exclusively lemonade, just a faint hint of beer reach my nose. The flavor has the same problem, the lemon overpowers the beer completely. It’s dry, effervescent and medium bodied on the palate, finishing with lemonade and a beery twist. Ok, so they accomplished what they were aiming for, that authentic German radler taste and aroma. Plus more body due to the higher alcohol level. But I still don’t think it’s a good drink. At least it’s not awfully artificial like some of the Germans. 130819

12 oz bottle from a Summer Sampler Pack. Nose is light lemon and caramel malt, and hints of floral and tartness. Clear yellow orange with a medium yellow tinged head. Flavor is very slightly tart and lemony with a contrasting hint of sweetness.

Purchased in the States, part of their 2013 Beers of Summer variety pack. Pours a clean light-golden colour with a frothy white head, decent retention and soapy lacing. Lemonade aromas with some lime notes and grainy malts in the background. The citrus is present in the start of the taste, but the malt does take over to make this one closer to a fruit beer, than and shandy. Those who do like shandys, should like this though. Refreshing for this heat wave we are having. Could not drink as many of these, as the Miller Chill Lime for this weather, as a bit heavier.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized fizzy head. Fair head retention. Aroma of tart lemon and pale malts. The taste is pale malts, some caramel, lemon finish. Medium bodied. Doesn’t seem like a true shandy... there’s actually some beeriness to this!

smelled like mild lemon meat. crisp looking with a decent thin head. initial lemon impact, with a tad of dullness. goes down fairly easy but probably would not drink too many of these. yes, lemon there is. not yer typical sweeter shandy. not sure if hops belong in here with lemons. finish is slight dull lemon pledge.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a pale yellow color with a medium sized foamy white head that faded fairly quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was tangy bread, lemon and a bit of cracker. The flavor was tangy and a bit tart with notes of lemonade, lemon zest and cracker. Medium lemonade finish. Light to medium body. Ok.

Oddly enough I was pretty stoked about getting a bottle of this. Never had a shandy before, never heard of a radler. Pours a dark golden color and a short-lived finger of white head. Pretty translucent for beer blended with lemonade... There is an aroma of 7up/Sprite that leads into a citrus scent. Drinks well, clean and refreshing. Spritzer comes to mind, lots of lemon/citrus, and a small semblance of the Helles beer. Fun to try and easy to drink, but I’m not ready to jump on the shandy bangwagon just yet.

Clear pale gold color with a thin white head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Lemonade aroma. Light body with flavors of lemon sports drink and wheat. The finish is sweet with a lemony aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Pours clear gold with a tall, quickly falling white head. Aroma similar to Ginger Ale. The flavor is lightly sweet and fruity. What fruit ti is I can’t discern. Light, spritzy, refreshing.

Kind of drinkable. Not enough lemonade character, though.
