This is a Barley Wine. But, not only that. It’s also an imperial stout infused cognac, cocoa, vanilla and tonka bean barrel aged barley wine! It’s a mouthful in the best of ways. Completely unique. Boom!
This is one of those beers that come out of experience, wanting and necessity. A few years back we did a barley wine called Bring It On. It was blended to one tenth barrel aged imperial stout and it was really good. So, we knew that blend worked and we’ve wanted to do it again. A few months back we emptied some cognac barrels holding We Are Beer Bristol. An imperial stout with cocoa, vanilla and tonka bean. And, those cognac barrels were too nice to just get rid of. So, we brewed a barley wine and filled up the barrels with it. And, we’re very happy that we did. Very happy.

Ravfarget klar med lavt beige skum. Lukter kanel, vanilje, rosiner og bark. Fyldig. Lett bitter brent karamell, trevirke, søtlig tørket frukt, rosiner, vanilje, kanel, trevirke og alkohol.

Mörkt bärnstensfärgad vätska. Första doftreaktion, skurhink med kemikalier. Efter en stunds luftning påminner det om fikabröd, på ett positivt sätt. Doftljus, med framträdande vaniljtoner. Påtaglig närvaro av kokos, smått bränd.

On tap at MBCC '19, Red session. Clear amber body with a rustic glint. Spotty lacing, low off-white head. Dried fruity aromas, hints of cognac. Solid taste character of dried fruits, almond, coconut and distant alcohol. Dried fruity ending, warming down the throat. Well bodied. Gets overly sweet in the long run. (Copenhagen 11.05.2019).

Flaska från SB. Klar, bärnstensfärgad utan skum. Mörk torkad frukt, vanilj, kokostoppar, cognac, övermogna äpplen, snäll kakaoton och en distinkt tonka-ton som drar åt johannesbröd och fikon. Rejäl kropp med en om möjligt rejälare fatkaraktär. Bra med snygg hetta och fatprofil som tämjer den annars stora kroppen. Annorlunda på gränsen till plojig men absolut gott.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Clear medium amber with a small head. Sweet with dried fruit, spices, caramel, wood and malt. The body was full and the finish with warming alcohol. Different but ok.

Flaska från SB. Kristallklar något ljusare kopparfärgad. Udda fågel denna. Mörk torkad frukt, vanilj, Cognac, övermogna äpplen, snäll kakaoton och en distinkt tonka-ton som drar åt johannesbröd och fikon. Rejäl kropp med en om möjligt rejälare fatkaraktär. Bra med snygg hetta och fatprofil som tämjer den annars stora kroppen. Osäker på vad jag ska tycka om denna, men kul är den.
