"San Diego-style IPA, as it has come to be known by many, is a super-hoppy, high gravity, yet highly quaffable ale. Green Flash Imperial IPA is created in this new tradition, with intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Summit and Nugget hops. It’s all about the hops!" -- Brewmaster Chuck Silva

Bottle from Peter (Mr Pitstop brewery) Bellingers, Jet Garage, Grove Nr Wantage, many thanks to Peter for dropping these off at my work, consumed at Castleton campsite, Peak District, Derbyshire, 20.09.10 Pours amber with very large white frothy head. Nice aroma of hops, not too clinical or harsh like some US IPA’s it’s actually very easy going. Full on in the mouth, good depth of flavour, nice bittersweetness, a harsh marmalade finish, but overall I like this because its quite underplayed. A7 A5 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Bottle. Thick looking amber beer with a strongish head. The aroma is fairly well hopped with an element of smokyness, and the flavour is extremely well hopped with a long slightly herbal and bitter finish. Overall a nice very strongly hopped and herbal like beer.

Bottle from GBBF 2010. Clear amber, lasting thin beige head. Green leafy hoppy aroma. Now that is a hoppy beer, big proper peppery hoppy on finish and quite bitter too. Not too sweet. The malts are there and just enough without being too showy or too sweet. Alcohol does make a bit of a hot appearance on the swallow and some burn lasts in the mouth along with the very bitterr hops. Had to get a lot of the carbonation out of this. This lets the fresh tangerine and mandarin flavours to come through as well as the grapefruit. As much as I love the hops, ultimately the alcohol heat and the overly bitterness on the finish do make it quite a struggle to drink. Yes, I’m going to say it. It’s just too hoppy.

Bottle from GBBF ’10. Drank at home. Amber pour, beige head. Honey, peach, pear, citrus nose. Very sharp hop flavours with a splash of citrus and malts. Very hoppy indeed but most palatable. Crisp hop finish.

Bottle bought at GBBF 2010. An orangey coloured pour with a very small white head. Pleasant pine, big hoppy aroma. Tastes intensely hoppy, bitter, citrus fruit, grapefruit, pine, dry, hint of sweetness. This is an incredibly complex Imperial IPA which is very well made. Worth trying once.

Slightly hazy orange color, small steady white head. Strong piney, woody, grapefruity and yeasty aroma. Good body. Grapefruity flavor with orange, orange peels, pine and resin. Hints of licorice. Quite sticky, alcoholic palate. Very American double IPA.
