Hop Dam has been a long time in the works, and its design required us to build a large stainless steel hop dam for our kettle, just for this beer! It was worth all the effort, because this beer is extremely hoppy and very satisfying, using 50% more hops than our Mean Manalishi Double IPA, which was voted Best Double IPA In The World by the US Beer Tasting Championships. Hop Dam is 10% alcohol by volume, and really hoppy, with a bitterness level that is very high but refined and therefore refreshing – its like kissing a hop!! Along with all the standard hop additions, it is also mash-hopped, first-kettle-hopped, and dry-hopped!!! Hop Dam is a 100% American-style IPA, dominated by the top-rated, assertive and refined Amarillo hops, along with lots of aroma and flavor from Columbus, and Cascade, and the wonderful Summit hops – the very special dwarf hop plant picked by hand, and sought-after for its great flavor and aroma. These hops work great together, and make Hop Dam TRIPLE IPA our new standard for hoppy beers!! It will be available for only a few months, so get Hop Dam while it lasts!

Smak och doft av passionsfrukt, jäst, humle men en torr grapebeska som klippar ihop tungan. Torr och sträv.

Pours a hazy golden yellow, that is, until large chunks of something (yeast?) come barreling out of the bottle and land in the glass and it becomes very hazy, with lots of floating chunks in it. Small head. Aroma is very hoppy. Flavor is dominated by hop bitterness, extremely citrusy, with some malt sweetness in the background. Quite a resinous mouthfeel, with a bitter finish. As hop bombs go, this one isn’t bad, though I might suggest the brewer try to filter out more of the yeast--it’s rather unsightly and almost made me stop drinking what turned out to be a pretty good beer.

Bottle with no freshness date indicated. Pours with a scary DEEP amber body that is slightly hazed with an off-white head. This deep of a color with this abv makes for some apprehension on my part. Aromas are of caramel, soap, pine. Very East Coast in balance. Bready, clean yeast, mild ester, alcohol. So much more hop than malt that it makes me a bit sad. Flavors are East Coast. Incredibly bitter in the finish, all malt balance flavor wise with massive amounts of caramel and toffee. Bitter, burnt flan. Pine, strawberry. I was very much looking forward to this beer before I poured it. This isn’t a small tasting, I poured half the bomber in to the glass, and after a few sips, it was a complete drain pour. Its clean, but the beer doesn’t work for me. Caramel, cloyingly sweet and then punishingly bitter. I like this brewery, but this is absolutely not how I would design a high gravity IPA. It doesn’t work, and it isn’t even an East Coast vs West Coast IPA debate. This doesn’t even have the balance of and American Barleywine. Expensive drain pour. Thick bodied, lively carbonation. Bad. #endrant

I’ve had this beer twice before. Today I ordered another bottle and I wanted to check whether my friends have had this one or not. Turns out I somehow didn’t rate this. Last time I had this was at my birthday. Amazing clear golden colour with a nice white head. Smells lovely hoppy, fresh, fruity and grapefruits. Tastes like you would expect from the smell. It’s a great big flavored, bitter IPA. Love it!

Bottle. Hazy bright golden color, small white head. Aroma of freshly cut wet grass, citrus. Taste is bitter straw, fruit. Very dry finish, enough to suck your cheeks inside out if you’re not careful.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 6 Oct 2012) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, grapefruit, resin and rubber. Malty, fruity taste with citrus, resin, caramel, citrus peel and a slightly vinous finish with a solid resinous, citric bitterness. Full body, fairly sweet. Hardly balanced, but the hop character is quite impressive. Very nice.

Bedankt Belgbeergeek. 66 cl. fles (batch 430) gedeeld met Belgbeergeek & Sebletitje @ Belgian Ratebeer Winter Gathering of Ultimate Evil. An IIIPA – que CSI Miami, sunglasses thing. Wazig amber oranje, weinig witte kraag.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle shared with friends. Pours a murky cider gold with floatings bits and a fat white head. Hoppy beach aroma. Complex blend of almonds, orange rind and grapefruit. Very bitter finish.

Location: Bottle shared w/ jcos, and dbarnold 10/21/12

Aroma: The nose is dry and hoppy, the aromas are more oily hops then juicy
Appearance: It pours a hazy orange color with a ton of sediment and a white head
Flavor: The taste of this one is dry and bitter with minimal sweetness
Palate: The body is medium-full, it feels fairly sticky, with a long, heavy dry finish
Overall Impression: I tend to enjoy more of a juicy hop type of presence with some citrus or pine to it to go along with the resiny punch. This one is really just a resiny bitter type of IIPA, it is still good, but not a top of style example for me.
