We auctioned off Anders for charity a while ago, for Swedish national radio P3’s “Musikhjälpen” initiative. The winning bunch of friends wanted to brew something traditional. They were tired of modern beers – a.k.a “pastry beers”- adding buns, vanilla cream, coffee beans soaked in chocolate, raspberry doughnuts and other items to the recipe. Jump they say, “how high?” we ask and ripped out a 200 year old British imperial stout. Simple as that. Strong, full bodied and packs a great punch. What’s not to like with British tradition?

Can@SBWF2018. Very deep brown colour, close to black, with a small foamy off-white head. Aroma is chocolate, alcohol, liquorice and some mild spciness. Flavour is chocolate, coffee, some sweet plummy tones, mild alcohol with some roast as well. Warming, and actually a bit on the boozy side, even though staying below 10 %...

(Can, Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, 6 Oct 2018) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice. Malty, roasted, slightly vinous taste with coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, a touch of soy sauce and a generous roasty bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and fairly powerful imperial stout. Nice one.

200ml draught at Bierhaus. Low, fawn-coloured head leaving spotty lacing down the glass. Pitch black in the glass. Roasted dark malty nose, hints of dark dough, ash, and liquorice. Rather rich blended taste of chocolate malts, liquorice, and dark fruits. Long-lived, mid-sweet malty-driven finish, carefully roasted. Well bodied. Good drinking. (Stockholm 28.07.2018).
