Christopher Polhem (1661–1751) var den svenska mekanikens fader. År 1700 grundade han Stjärnsunds manufakturverk – 100 år före den industriella revolutionen.

Redan som 15-åring skapade Polhem sin första mekaniska verkstad. Efter studier i Uppsala blev han anställd vid Falu koppargruva för att förbättra tekniken för att ta upp malm. Kort därefter startade han ett manufakturverk i södra Dalarna tillsammans med finansiären Gabriel Stierncrona – därav namnet Stjärnsund.

Stjärnsunds manufakturverk blev en föregångare till den moderna industrin i Sverige. Här tillverkades redskap och verktyg till hushållen, på ett helt nytt sätt. 1716 adlades Polhem (som tidigare hette Polhammar) tack vare sina insatser för Sveriges tekniska utveckling. Än idag tillverkas några av hans uppfinningar efter samma mekaniska principer som då.

Polhem är en ekologisk IPA, india pale ale, med maltig smak och inslag av knäckebröd, ljus sirap och apelsinskal.

Draught@SBWF2022. Amber colour with a mediumsized foamy off-white head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is caramalts, some floral and citrusy tones as well as some mild spruce. Flavour is pretty much following the path of the aroma. Nice malty, yet bitter IPA.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, 8 Oct 2022) Pale amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, hoppy nose with citrus, pine needles and caramel. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of caramel, citrus, grapefruit, resin and a balanced citric/piney bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced IPA. Nice one.

Keg @ SBWF 2022. Poured mahognay in color. Pleasant English IPA. Malts, toffee notes. Crackers. Sweetish finish.

Appearance: Amber colour with an off-white head.
Aroma: Caramel, citrus, hops, fruit.
Body: Medium body and carbonation.
Flavour: Fruit, malt, caramel.

Bottle from Systembolaget, e-order in October 2018. Amber with a small white head. Sweetish with light hops, some citrus and caramel. The body was medium as was the bitterness. Drinkable but nothing special.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Clear amber, small head. Aroma of pineapple and lychee. Sweet with medium-full body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Fruity with honey, mango and lychee. Mid bitter finish.
