A prize-winning beer that we brew exclusively for De Bierkoning. The fruity, bitter hops and lightly roasted malt complement each other perfectly in this light brown beer. These flavours are accentuated with a little coriander to produce a full aroma of flowers, citrus and a hint of caramel. An irresistible beer that was crowned in the Brussels Beer Challenge with a silver medal in the Herb & Spice category.

Bottle. Thanks to MadsNp. Pours hazy orange with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is yeast, pepper and brett. Medium and smooth body. Taste is very dusty and yeasty with some bretty notes. Infected, perhaps not meant to be?!? Ends dry.

30th September 2008. Cloudy brown beer. Extraodinary tasting beer. Very strong sourish ginger and caraway but there is no burn from the ginger (if that’s what it is made with). Dry finish with quite a bit of hops. An eye opener the flavour of this one but not in a good way!

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam, consumed at Kemmel campsite, Belgium, 10-06-09 Pours reddy copper colour, hazy with a creamy and touch bubbly head, medium carbonation and some yeast that quickly settled. Yeasty in mouth, malty aroma, taste is tangy with yeast and spices very much in evidence also a litttle tea?. Good clingy bitterness, its a fruity and decent beer. A6 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.5

A hazy golden ale with a thick onctuous off white head, lacing and beautiful. A very herbal hops aroma, catnip, some Brett, and lemon notes. In mouth, another fine Orval style ale, with bready malt, light Brett notes, coriander, orange peels, herbal bitterness, very sustained. Bottle bought in Amsterdam, Nov. 2006, so 2.5 years old. Still a treat!!!

bottle at Arendsnest in Amsterdam - I can’t believe I spent six nights in Amsterdam and neglected to go to this brewery. Well, at least I had a bottle of their beer, I guess. Pours dark blonde with a white head. The aroma is of malt and hops with some light citrus notes. It tastes of bready malt, moderately strong hops bitterness, and spice. It’s medium bodied and has a long, bitter finish. Very nice brew.

Re-ratet 2009 at Cafe Belgique in Amsterdam (on tap). Muddy orange body with a descent off-white head. Aroma is citric fruity and spicy. Flavor is refreshing fruity with a citric acidity, coriander, herbs, yeast, malt and some hops. Balanced sweetness and fine finish. Reminds me of a spicy saison, much better than last time a sampled this some years ago. 2-3-2-2-3 330 ml bottle. I know for sure this beer is supposed to be a lot better than this, and something is wrong with this bottle. Then again it passed the control and where sold so this is the beer I have to base my rating on. (this rating has been laying around in my drawer for at least one year) Will re-rate as soon as the opportunity comes again. Hazy orange beer with a white head. Unpleasant aroma of mould and sewer. Flavor is malty and harsh bitter with an acidulous dominance.

Bottle, De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Consumed on the rattler heading down to Brussels. Cloudy amber colour with a big ol’ white head. Spicy, yeasty aroma and flavour. A bit of herbiness (or is that just me after a fruitful trip to Grey area). Some hop bitterness into a lingering dry finish. A little on the booozy side and something about this I didn’t quite warm to . Oh well.

Bottle. Cloudy brown beer with a very strong head. The aroma is sour, burn’t and dry, and the flavour is very bitter, slightly spiced and sour. Overall quite an average beer.
