14/10/2022. Can from Dan Murphy’s. Pours black with a small short lasting beige coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, plum pudding, mild coffee, caramel, light liquorice and ash. Medium sweetness and light to moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, oily, average carbonation. Finished smooth but a little watery, overall enjoyable.

375ml can from School of Animals, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a short-lived, frothy, off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, toffee caramel. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter and sweet, with a rich, dry, roasty, liqourice, ash tray, light sweet vanilla caramel palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Nicely balanced with just the right amount of sweetness.

(Can) Pours black with a tiny tan head. Good aroma of chocolate, roast grain, hints of dark toffee / burnt sugar. Wonderful mouthfeel - very smooth, with fine carbonation. Great taste with a balance between sweet chocolate and dark toffee with hops providing some growing bitterness. Very nice.

Bottle. Started at recommended 8°C, was only a little too cold. Piano black with a light tan head. 4 Aroma of roast, coffee, bread, dark berries, licorice, spices. Just medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Light bread, coffee, licorice. Moderately peppery and bitter finish. Dryish, far from rich. Refreshing, very English (like a stronger yet more austere Shep's).
