’Fad bamse’ is a highly hopped and dry hopped imperial pilsner with a light body and lovely crispyness from the lager yeast.
A Danish pilsner is typically characterized by an alcohol content of 4,6% vol., piss-yellow colour and a sexless, slightly bitter taste. But it doesn’t have to be like this…! Draft Bear is Mikkellers interpretation of a ’pilsner’, heavyweight-style. With its powerful hop notes, high alcohol content and lovely golden appearance, the only reference to the pilsner style is the clean taste of the lager yeast.

From a 330ml bottle on 19/5/2012. Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden with a big lasting head. Has a pleasant aroma of caramel malt and fruity, floral hops. The fruit is most prominent in the flavour with lemon, orange and orange peel, but there’s also honey and a touch of caramel. This is hugely hopped, with some IPA like grapefruit evident, giving it a dry, lingering, slightly sour bitterness. Yet another fabulous, left field beer from Mikkeller. Proves that a lager can actually be something special.

Bottle from Theatre of Wine, Greenwich. Amber pour with a beige head. Banana, citrus and pear aroma. Exotic fruit and pear flavour with a whisper of vanilla. Bitter tang. Bitter-fruit finish.

33cl bottle from Kihosk. Pours clear golden with a lasting white head. Hoppy aroma with citrus, light pine, some malt and hints of yeast and fruit. Refreshingly different, reminds me a bit of IPA, but the fruity ale dimension is missing. Light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Alcohol is well integrated, but noticable, especially when it gets warmer. Dry and quite bitter finish. Bitter aftertaste with citrus (grapefruit?). Nice and hoppy and dangerously drinkable.

A hazed amber orange ale with a thick lacing mocha head. In aroma, a smooth fruity and grassy malt with maderized notes, treacle, nice. In mouth, a smooth grassy malt and nutty malt, oily mouthfeel, malt bomb, maderized, but this is still good after 2 years. Bieropholie import, BB 13-12-2009. Bottle. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Noble hop and light pine aroma with malt. Pine and malt flavor with noble hops. Mediumb odied. Pine and malt linger with light caramel, spice, and some woodsiness.

330ml bottle. Pours gold with a large head. Aroma is mango hops with some creamy malt underneath. Taste is bready to start with a strong, bitter mango finish. Quite fizzy.

Pours hazy dark golsden color with white head. Aromas of bread dough and pils malts with some floral hops. Sweet caramel with grassy hop flavor and some dough. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

750 ml bottle. Rated this last night on paper. Pours cloudy orange with a large pillowy off-white head; lace sheets the glass. Aroma is fruity--apples, citrus; spicy--cinnamon comes through especially. Taste is more similar to an imperial IPA than an imperial pilsner. Bittersweet with a somewhat lingering bitter finish. Body is light and the carbonation is medium-high. The aroma led me to believe this was going to be awesome but the taste let me down.
