Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel-Aged Coffee Chocolate Stout
CBS was born when we stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. We opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, we knew we had something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience.

Coffee, boozy, chocolate, bourbon and maple. Tried and tested. Less coffee than KBS, sweeter and has more in it. Slightly less awesome in its simplicity. Both are great, both are different. A real pleasure every time.

Pours a real dark brown, kind of black colour with a big frothy-creamy mocha-coloured head, great lasting with some thick creamy lacing. Big aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, mild coffee, dark fruits and sweetness from the maple syrup. The taste starts off on the coffee side taking over the dark malts. The maple is not too sweet here to kill the fun. Wow! These Founders Imperial Stouts are so delicious. Worth the stiff price.

Un intense café agrémenté de Bourbon nous introduit un olfactif malté, épicé et alcoolisé. Également perçu : chocolat, bois de barrique, noisettes et fudge. Mais c’est l’alcool qui règne en maître. Mousse de couleur moka, crémeuse et persistante, sur un liquide noir et opaque. Entrée de bouche plutôt chocolatée avec de belles notes de sirop d’érable, puis l’alcool envahit peu a peu le palais avec un Bourbon bien senti et une finale légèrement épicée, alcoolisée mais peu amère. Un fruité de levure rappelant les raisins secs s’immisce en sourdine dans cette palette plutôt chocolatée mais surtout, et peut-être un peu trop, alcoolisée. Elle demeure toutefois absolument agréable à boire.

Draft. A- Coffee, maple. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Coffee, roasty, maple, boozy. P- Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Bought 3 bottles of this a while back and saw this on tap so I had to try it now and save my bottles to age. Big booziness on the end that would benefit from aging. Lots of coffee and maple. Loved it a lot but still think I prefer the base Breakfast stout over this and KBS. None the less, excellent stuff.

Draught, taster. Sampled on the 16/03/2019 at Barcelona Beer Festival 2019, (L´Hospitalet, Spain). Black colour with a medium and foamy tan head. Aroma is full of coffee beans, chocolate, maple syrup and dried fruits. Taste is intense black coffee, maple syrup and wood. Smooth roasty finish. Next one please!
