Can. Murky amber with thick beading. Raisins and caramel on nose. Huge big boozy beast of a beer with malt up the wazoo and flavour til next week. I love it and can't wait to get more.

From a 330ml bottle on 11/6/2017 (IBU listed as 94, not 51). Pours a murky amber with a small to medium head. Has a very pleasant caramel/toffee/butterscotch aroma, with some rye bread in the mix as well. Flavour wise, it features much of what presents in the nose - caramel and toffee male, and rye, along with some stone fruit sweetness. This is balanced by a good dose of hops at the back. The texture is thick and the carbonation relatively soft. Hides the 10.1.% very well, and is almost too easy to drink. This is an enjoyable barley wine, bordering on excellent. The only knock is that it could use just a tad more punch in terms of character. Still, it’s a big beer I’d be more than happy to revisit, and represents great value. The first can I’ve come across which comes with a label.

Can. Unclear amber with an off white head. Promising aroma is luscious with bread, sweet plums, over-ripe peaches and marzipan, then a lightening touch of pepper, flowers and grapefruit. 7+ The booze wasn’t evident from the aroma, but it’s depth charge like - a booming warming glow rather than hot. Any complications on the malt side don’t get long to register because strong bitterness takes over quite quickly. OTOH, it’s again nice and zesty and comes in over the top rather than nagging its way through (can says it’s 94 IBU). But again there’s some nice stone fruit, although there’s not quite as much going on as you’d hope for a 10% beer. Still, this was a lot of fun.
