(Bottle) Pours black with ruby hints and a big dense tan head. Wonderful complex aroma - port, burnt toast, orange hints. Medium body, with good carbonation. Taste is a very nice balance of dark roast malts and fruity bitter hops. There’s coffee, dark chocolate and burnt toast balanced by raisins, and citrus. There’s a pleasant bitterness in the finish. Very nice - complex and interesting whilst being very drinkable.

Bottle. Darkish brown with a beige head that settles to around an inch. Aroma of pine, grass, grapefruit, mild roast. Some blackcurrant? Sweet with molasses and mocha, as much pine but less fruit than suggested by the aroma. Lightish bodied but quite punchy for 5.6%. This is good and very drinkable but unlike Shawn’s Fault (is or was?) not very distinctive.

The alcohol is quite prominent in the aroma for a relatively low alcohol beer, but there’s plenty else besides, including mocha, pine needles, apricot and musk. Roasted malt and a little coffee combine with the pine and grapefruit in the mouth. It’s got a nice length and a pleasant, lingering bitterness. A well-crafted black IPA.

Draught as part of a tasting paddle, at The Local Taphouse in Sydney, on October 10, 2015.Clear dark reddish brown to black color, tan head. Citrus and fruity hoppy scent, a bit of grains. Hoppy, citrus, toasted taste. Toasted aftertaste, some alcohol, a bit roasted. Fairly big smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
