33 cl. bottle shared with Kraddel on the train ride to Borefts 2013. BBF 07/11/2013. Drank straight from the bottle, procured from Willems. High carb. soy, slight smoke even, way more restrained than the porter but does remind me a little bit of that beer. Also getting sweet malt & thick brown sugar, high spices, some roast, caramel & serious dark bread. Pretty character-full & interesting dubbel. Nice brew, Viven is good stuff.

Re-rate at a blind tasting , anno 2017. Black glassware, wrapped bottle. Deleted earlier rating since it became very irrelevant. Smell is malty, but not overly fresh. Stale, old white bread. Taste is sharp, bit bitter. rather high carbo. Bit creamy body. Pretty lager-like, but a more full body than what i?d expect from a lager. Also has got more sweetness. Bit of chemical backside to me as well ( not overly clear, but mostly retronasal ) . Seems like I totally missed the ballpark here, but Thats simply what I tasted. Strange thing is that I gave the exact same score years ago, as I did today.

Bottled, BB 05-02-14, large sample. Clear ruby color, medium frothy light brown head. Aroma of spicy belgian yeast, lots of caramel, hint of dark bread, Poperinge hops which give a hint of melon and pear. Taste has some sweetness, caramel again, medium dry, quite high on carbonation. Although it’s only 6% it does give some sense of alcohol. Finish is a bit thin and watery, that’s disappointing actually. Quite typical belgian double styled beer.

Bottle. Nice lacings left as the creamy off-white head sinks with the constantly lower level of unlcear, dark amber beer. Prunes, dark sugar, some grassy, peppery hops, and some pastry hints. Prunes, dark sugar, grassy hops and some spiced notes. Full body, very dry on the palate, with soft and pleasant carbonation. Bitter, yet malty sweet finish. A quite pleasant one, but it sort of lacks the balance one normally expect from Belgian beer. 130516
