St. Bernardus Abt 12 is widely regarded as one of the best beers in the world. It is therefore no surprise that it is our brewery’s flagship beer, ranked at the very top of the St. Bernardus beer hierarchy. It is brewed in the classic quadrupel style and adheres to the original 1946 recipe. This is a dark beer with a robust head that is ivory in colour. EBC 60.

Bottle at home. Pours hazy dark copper with big off-white head. Aroma of dark dried fruits, caramel, brown sugar, a lot of vinous notes. Tastes sweet with balancing bitterness. Medium bodied, highly carbonated, finishes a bit sweet.

Rerate of one of the most influential beers I had... Hope it still stands up after all this time. It did explode the first time...Totally calm this time. Smell-weak to medium, Belgian, malt, caramel. Foam-thin, large in mouth, caramel, malt, Belgian notes, acidic tones, alcohol. Head is large, medium-dark brown-white color. Appearance- beer bottle cap, classic, yet simple label. Clear very dark ruby color, with no carbonation at the sides. From - snifter Taste- malty, caramel, Belgian yeast, acidic tones. Weak hops, but generally very neutral, alcohol is in the back, but not too hidden. One is clear - this beer really benefits from aging. This one is bit plain and young or my taste has gone dull. Still, I definitely enjoy this. Gave max I could... Old rating, one of my first: 8/5/8/5/17 = 4,3 Well this is a wild ride, first ever beer what had exploded, literally. When opening bottle there was loud explosion like from champagne and I actually hurt my finger a bit. Guess it had quite a fermentation in here. Smell - medium strong, but lasting, some caramel, hop and sweetness tones, really nice must say feels complex. Foam - some carbonation at start, sweet bitterness for tongue, foam get huge, not creamy, by taste sweet and bitter. Taste in general - sweet and bitter, some alcohol tones, not too carbonated, some bittersweet aftertaste in mouth and around it, gives nice burps due to fact foam gets crazy, not bad at all, Will never forget this beer due to opening experience :D Just makes me want to offer it to other people and see their reaction.

Bottle. Malty aroma, belgian yeast, caramel notes, honey, berries fruit, plums and cherries notes. Tastes the same as aroma, light to medium sweet, light bitter, light sour notes. Full body, lively carbonation and malty bitter sweet finish with all those others flavours. Good.

Bottle. One of those great Belgian quadruples. Sweet caramel, strong backing. (27/5/18) ---- Bottle from Belgium, thanks Matthias. Rated as quite a young one. Gentle to no aroma but comforting. Great dark colour. Some lakrits in the taste. Dark cherry. Rarely my most favourite style but it is a great beer. Carbonation a little too high. 3.8 to 3.7
