St. Bernardus Abt 12 is widely regarded as one of the best beers in the world. It is therefore no surprise that it is our brewery’s flagship beer, ranked at the very top of the St. Bernardus beer hierarchy. It is brewed in the classic quadrupel style and adheres to the original 1946 recipe. This is a dark beer with a robust head that is ivory in colour. EBC 60.

Poured a beautiful gold-brown with a rich head that settled down after a few minutes but remained throughout as a fine layer.
The smell was fruity with plum notes taking center stage but it was more of a subtle aroma than I expected.
The taste is a mix of fruit, more of the plum and some banana with a faint clove presence. Yum. This is wonderfully balanced brew that does a nice job of warming *and* doesn't let the alcohol interfere with the flavours' symphonic melody. Tis a fine example of a Belgian Quadrupel.

Bottle from maruhn (?), this is one of the first bottles I bought a year ago. Nose is citrus, orange, candis sugar, plums, caramel. Palate mixes sweet plum, fruity citrus, and bitter chocolate. I was at a 4.0 at the first few sips, but it is crazy how many flavours it is able to pack in at once. Bittersweet finish. Truly amazing.

This is tough. On tap at botteltje oostend. Brown color, hazed, thick creamy beige head, quite persistent?. Aroma of caramel, liquorice, scotch, old furniture, yeast, starch and boiled wine, some fruit spirit, tobacco/cigar. Taste powerul, sweet, alcoholic as old spirit. Very woody with solvent and varnish. Earthy and warming finish. Very heavy, full body, soft carbonation, sticky finish with fuel notes. Not exactly up toy expectation, but a serious and classsic brew which deserves following.
