Bottle, 13C. 2013 version is 9.1%, not 7.5%. Black with an inch of light tan head that gradually fades to a fat coat and laces well. Aroma of mocha, blackberries, burnt toffee, some earthy and herbal notes. Silky texture, lowish carbonation. Rather sweet with toffee and mocha, berries, licorice, some ash, light grassy/ herbal notes in brooding bitterness. Aroma made me think there was going to some astringency there at the end, but no. Big, but alcohol is well-integrated: no heat at all. A little on the sweet side for me, but a fine stout. that’s harmonious and interesting.

Pours black with very little in the way of head.Nose shows lovely roasted malt with cocoa, dark chocolate and nutty notes. Very nice.Equally moreish flavours, loads more chocolate, roasted malt and caramel. Some alcohol shows but stays in the background. Quite sweet.Could use more carbonation, there’s pretty much no fizz whatsoever.
