We believe this beer's name is the Norwegian translation of the traditional apache proverb: "it is better to have less thunder in the mouth and more lightning in the hand." Which felt apt for this beer (albeit with the slightly odd, sexual undertone?!). Another traditional proverb on the shortlist was: "what is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more." Which, loosely translated into Norwegian is: grisebonde.

330ml bottle. Pours dark and oily. Bread, some umami blue cheese stuff, sour cherries, chocolate. Some lovely sour cherry juice stuff, but I can’t get on board with the wheat porter aspect I guess.

Bottle bought in Brisbane in August 2014. Black with a small head. This was a strange one. Sour with some light berries, brett, gingerbread and some chlorine. The body was light. I did not finish my glass.

33 cl bottle @ Vastarannan Kiiski. Aroma is sour with bretta, white wine and earthy tones. Flavour is somewhat tart and sour with white wine, bretta, some earthy notes and grapefruit. Finishes with some cherry juice and hints of porter-like roastiness. Unusual but nice. Quite straightforward considering the name and ABV.

330ml bottle @ Malja, Kuopio

Pours black with a white head. Aroma of roasted malts, hints of tobacco, ash, sour cherries and leathery bretta notes. Taste is smootish, roasty and slightly yeasty with notes of bretta, smoke and leather with hints of cherries. Finish is roasty, smoked and leathery with a touch of bretta and sour cherries. Quite unique but a bit unbalanced.

Bottle 330ml @Beer Hunters
Opaque black color, steady brownish head. "Smokey", kirsebaer aroma. Very light body for 7.6% beer! Some tobacco notes, toasted flavors, some cellar ... more or less toasted finish. Where is cherry? Where is bretta? Dissapointing.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Hilpeä Hauki, 20131001) The beer poured black. Its head was small and almost white. Aroma had cherries and spices. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roastedness, cherries, sourness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste had cherries and low bitterness. An interesting experiment resulting in a weird Christmas beer. Not bad though.

Bottle, 13C. Black with tan head that fades to a coat. Aroma of sour cherries, chocolate, licorice. Very silky texture, low carbonation. Bitter chocolate, less cherry than the aroma, a bit of zingy brett and pepper at the end. Fine stuff. [3.8]Head better retained, some apples coming through. Hope they make this one again, it’s lovely.

Pours black with a quickly fading head.Nose shows funky notes, vinegar characters, cherries and chocolate. Very interesting. Like black forest cake.Flavours are not quite as impressive, its more about the roasted malt, although some acidity shows through.Could use a bit more carbonation.
