750ml bottle from somewhere I can’t remember in Melbourne but shared at Battle of Bull, Cheras, Malaysia. Bottle 203/500. Poured a hazy dark reddish amber colour with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is malt, toffee caramel, light alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a big, rich, smooth, sweet toffee, warm boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

From a 750ml bottle on 6/2/2021 (2019 edition, bottle 182 of 500, ABV 9.6%, shared with Butz). Pours a dark reddy amber with a biggish head. The nose is malty, nutty with a good dash of dark fruit. Flavours follow suit, with caramel, nuts, berries and dried fruit, with some wood and nuts. There’s a decent bitterness to counter the sweetness and it all comes together nicely. The mouthfeel is slick and a touch syrupy, the carbonation softish. Pretty easy drinking for the size. Quite rich, sumptuous and very tasty.

On tap at Bitter Phew. Pours deep gold. Aroma is all sweet caramel and orchard fruit. Flavour is the same but all a bit too much. Caramel, apple, pear, orange, all thrown straight into your face. Little overbearing, but there’s a nice beer in here if I was in the mood.

2012 bottle. Bronze with no head. Not far off still - wonder whether it’s properly carbonated despite the mountain of wax. Powerful aroma of dried fruit (raisins, plums, figs) , pine and spices. Some coffee and alcohol. Dried fruit, burnt sugars, strong pine and herbal bitter notes. Booze sticks out a bit - I would have guessed 12%+. Complex and quite intense flavours and really quite bitter. Getting towards taxing, but plenty going on and coherent enough to actually drink.

Pours copper with a small head.Nose shows loads of rich sweet malt with caramel, golden syrup and bready melanoidin notes.Equally rich flavours. Golden syrup, bready malt, booze, toasty notes. The booze is a little harsh/full-on.Thick body suits the beers well.
