Smooth, silky vanilla undertones, dark malty bitterness, funky subtle Belgian notes, it’s a brand new beer! Organic vanilla extract adds a really pleasing twist to this magic brew.

part of my 2013 backlog, and a holiday gift. colour is almost black with a thick tan head. Aroma roasted malt, caramel and yes vanilla. The taste also has these but the vanilla isn’t too dominent.

Pours ruby-tinged black with a large, light tan head.Nose shows roasted malt, coffee and soft vanilla. All pretty faint.Lots more roasted malt as flavours, however the vanilla stays in the background. Some sweet caramel shows later before a mild roasty bitterness enters. Finish is slightly metallic.Carbonation is a little high, body somewhat thin.

Bottle. Dark brown with an inch of beige head that fades to a coat but laces quite well. Aroma of roasted malt, dark caramel, leafy yeast, vanilla, stewed prunes. The vanilla is brooding rather than wild in the nose. Very silky mouthfeel. Mouthfilling but not heavy, well disguised alcohol. Much more vanilla overtones in the taste, which is sweet with dark fruits, chocolate and caramel. Quite firm roasted flavours. All melds pretty nicely with the vanilla which is a lot more prominent in the mouth than in the nose. Some pepper at the end too. Helps that I’m keen on vanilla for this one, obviously.
