Magie und schwarze Seele: „Aventinus Eisbock“ – der mahagonifarbene, fast schwarze Eisbock für sinnlichen Genuss im Cognacschwenker. Nach spezieller Rezeptur eisgereift, mit weichem, elegantem Körper, dabei doch kräftig-intensiv verführt diese Schneider Spezialität schon beim allerersten Schluck: Geheimnisvoll offenbaren sich würzige Pflaumen-, Bananen- und Nelkenaromen mit einem Hauch von Bittermandel und Marzipan – einfach magisch. Und besonders verführerisch auch als Digestif. Oder zu Crepes, dunklen Schokoladen, Tiramisu und vollreifem Parmesan.
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore... Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created. Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Eisweizenbock mit absolut brutalen 12 % Alkohol und 25,5 % Stammwürze. Ein Weizendoppelbock ist schon ein Bierexot - ein Eisbock toppt das noch. Hierzu wird der Aventinus Doppelbock angefroren und da der Wasseranteil zuerst gefriert kann man diesen leicht entfernen und übrig bleibt die Bieressenz (mit dem ganzen Alkohol). Um eins mal vorweg zu schicken: Mit Bier hat das nicht mehr viel zu tun. Geht schon stark in Richtung Likör. Und trotzdem (ich kann es kaum glauben) - das Zeug ist lecker, ausgewogen und gut trinkbar. Viel Süße und Malz, aber auch herbe, würzige Noten und ganz viel Alkohol. Interessant, muss man mal getrunken haben. Sollte aber unbedingt wie Likör oder Likörwein behandelt werden.

Bottle. A- Raisins, grapes, caramel, fortified wine. A- Dark mahogany brown color, dark liquid, minimal fizzy head. T- Raisins, molasses, brown sugar, boozy, slightly sweet wine, subtle iron. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, boozy finish. O- At 4 years old, not sure if it held up or not. I think it has. That said, it was still very boozy. The first whiff and taste were rather nice with loads of caramelized raisins. As it warmed, the booze picked up and it almost became too harsh and a malty booze bomb to enjoy anymore. Honestly, not a huge fan. A bit overrated...at least after having been cellared.

Bottle, Finkenkrug Duisburg. 2006 version. Malt, raisin and porto in the aroma. Sweet and sugary flavor with raisin and porto. The alcohol is well hidden. Porto dominates more and more as the beer warmens up. Really excellent! Bottle 2012 version, tasted december 2013. Deep dark brown color. with an orange haze. Malt, sherry and figs in the aroma. Malty sweet, lovely but alcoholic flavor with porto, dried fruit, citrus and cream sherry. Figs. Very nice. 2006 version, tasted in 2017. Candied red fruit in the aroma. ’Porto And sherry in the sweet flavor. Sweet, No more Carbon. Has matured very well.

Last time I had this it was in the Schneider brew pub in munich, was amazing, wish I had used untappd back then. Not sure it compares here. Quite a malty nose until it settles down, damn smooth 12%, only get hints of danger on the nose. Banana bock.

Donker roodbruin bier met schuim. Smaak is warm en krachtig licht zoetzuur fruitig met sporen van banaan, rozijn, zoete druiven, karamel, pruimen en ietwat port. Geweldig bier !
