Taking its inspiration from Californian Common and American Pale Ale, this beer is hoppier, bigger and more thirst quenching than their forefather, a typical British style Extra Special Bitter.This beer has two hops providing its aroma. Celeila from Slovenia and Crystal from the Yakima Valley in Washington State, USA. Fruit aromas such as raspberry, orange and tangerine are the hallmark of these hops, and they are centre stage in Meantime’s Californian Pale Ale. The bitterness is well balanced against the alcohol and residual sweetness of the malt. The flavour is clean, complex and lasting. The beer is light in colour for a Pale Ale but the gentle backcloth of pale East Anglian malt provides the perfect foil for this hop accentuated beer.

Draft at Beer Temple. Pours clear amber with a white head. Aroma of orange, tropical fruits, light grapefruit and caramel malt. Flavour is light to light moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Light medium bodied with soft carbonation. Really nice easy going but tasty session beer.

Keg at the Champion - Bayswater. Pours clear gold with a creamy white head. The nose has some pine needles, mellow crystal malts, pale bread, a bit of orange. Light-medium sweet flavor with some bitter leafy hops, more bready pale malts, some dried citrus, tangerine. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Decent balance to finish with further leafy bitterness, ligtly sticky pine, bready sweetness, more citrus, a bit of rind and grass. Fair.

Tasted on tap the 01/07/2014. Medium clear golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is grassy, hoppy and caramel. Taste has some herbs, yeasts and caramel. Nice carbonation. The appearance is very nice. Moderate bitter taste and aftertaste. Next one please!

Tap @ In De Wildeman, share by TheJvd with bierkoning, benzai & joes. Clear orange color. Aroma’s of herbal hops, soft, with hints of caramel retronasal. Moderate bitter flavor. Light bodied. Moderate bitter finish. Nice enough.
