Dark red brown, poor beige head. Sweet malty aroma with some sweet-shop spice and grass. Complex and rather sweet dark/ stewed fruit malts (prunes, raisins, figs) and nuts with solid "tidying-up" bitterness that lingers to the finish. Hints of iodine there too: this is quite Welsh-tasting. Cockles, laverbread (seaweed) and black pudding would be a good match here.

Dark copper pour with a creamy off-white head.Aroma shows lots of sweet caramel, but also quite a bit of hops, with lots of resin, mint, and earthy notes. Quite interesting!Flavours are dominated by rich malt and soft alcohol. Lots of treacle, smoky peat and nutty notes, with little of the hops present in the aroma. Very rich, the alcohol if pretty full on.Very thick chewy body, which suit the beer well.

Bottle. I didn’t pour this carefully enough - it’s very dark and I got a fair amount of the sediment, which did settle out in the glass after a while. So initially it was a muddy brown, but it cleared to a deep red brown. There was little head. Rich malty aroma. Full body, almost oily, with very light carbonation. Flavour was predominantly rich alt with a dark toffee or treacle taste. There was a reasonable amount of complexity and some bitterness to balance the sweetness. An enjoyable drink, but not an every day drink.
