Toffee, coffee, biscuit, citrus and rust emanate from the aroma of this English ale. It’s a really enjoyable smell that draws you in, and there’s lots to like about the taste too, although it’s a little thinner than you’d like. The length is really impressive, with lots of toffee and a little grapefruit slipping down the throat. Be warned, I’m a very, very long way from being an aficionado on English ales, but I very much enjoyed this.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/6/2010. Has a bit of burnt toffee on the nose. The flavour is sweet caramel, balanced by an almost sour fruitiness. Reasonably Interesting but doesn’t really inspire.

Bottle. Pours bronze, decent beige head fades to a respectable coating. Aroma has some fruity malts and spruce. Smells pretty brusque. Very gassy mouthfeel. Still too carbonated after 30 minutes, although now some some nice fruit and caramel things are detectable. Moderate bitterness. At least on the evidence of this bottle, these guys haven’t quite got the bottle conditioning thing reliably right.

Cloudy bronze color. Very minerally nose. Mouth is very subdued for hops and minerally. Lacks direction. Aiming for English PA, but doesn’t have complexity. OK.

Hazy copper pour with a somewhat persistent small head.Aroma is quite green, piney, earthy and hoppy. Definitely English. Biscuity malt underneath.Flavours are completely malt-dominated. There’s the slightest hint of resiny hops, but otherwise the sweet crystal and nutty/cookie dough malt dominated. Simple, yet so delicious! Restrained bitterness makes for incredibly easy drinking.Good creamy mouthfeel.Wasn’t expecting anything this good. This beer isn’t exactly the best example of the style, but it is damn satisfying.

Cask conditioned at AIBA, Melbourne. Nut brown, creamy head. There’s hay and caramel as well as some orange. It’s dryish, solidly malty and really hoppy with pleasant bitter finish. A well balanced, likable bitter.
