Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, leather and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long roasted, licorice and chocolate finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.

Vintage 2008. Black with a big dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, coffee, honey and a little alcohol. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. Oily, smooth and full bodied. Very complex and intense. 050711

Vollmundig malzig-hopfiger und zu gleichem Anteil würziger Antrunk, bereits hier komplex. Dabei sind die Malzaromen eindeutig im Vordergrund, , schokoladig, überaus würzig, akkes spielt sich innerhalb der Malznoten ab. Harmonisch, zum Ende andeutungsweise bitter, weiterhin komplex. Zur Abrundung ist das Bier im Abgang hopfig was sich gut einfügt.Deutlich röstig und süßlich. Super! 12/13/13/14//13

consumed during the 2011 RBWGbottle pours thick black with a medium dark brown head that laces the lenghth of the glass. Aroma is very nice, heavy cocoa nad coffee with some port and dark fruity esters. Flavor is complex as hell, light roast, thin smoke notes with loads of semi-sweet coffee that linger with an earthy tobacco and sour wood note. Really nice beer.

2008 Bottle thanks to ericaandersnavy. Pours with a fading brown head and a black body with a few brown highlights. Glass coating. Aromas of fudge, brown sugar, molasses, airplane fumes, dark fruits, a ton of caramelization and chocolate. Flavors of raisins, ash, cocoa, fruits, dates and molasses. Medium carbonation with a lingering finish. Good stuff.

2008 vintage bottle. Let me begin by saying I actually preferred this version to the Kaggen. The pour was dark brown with light oily edges and a beautiful foamy brown head. Great oily lacing like DarkLord. Bold roasted malt aromas. This stout is so thick and chewy with huge roasted malt notes paired wonderfully with caramel and coffee undercurrents. I didn’t pick the honey flavors out, but I think they are what help make this a superbly balanced beer with just a hint of roasted bitterness in the finish....

25cl bottle @ Pikkulintu. 2006 bottle. My 666th rating! Poured black with a brown head. Nice lacing. Aroma is very inviting, coffee, vanilla, roasted malt and honey. Flavor is liquirice, burnt malt, honey and vanilla. End is dry, coffee and some sweetness. The honey made this beer very drinkabale and enjoyable. Just perfectly balanced. Hopefully I get to try the Kaggen version soon. This was probably the best Imperial stout I have tried so far.
