Ingredients: Malts: British Pale Ale Malt, Cara Malt, Malted Wheat. Heather, Bogmyrtle (Sweet Gale).
The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

Trocken herber Antrunk, in dem durchaus Kräuternoten erkennbar sind. Frisch, durch die Kräuter würzig, dazu stößt eine passende Malzigkeit auf geringem Niveau. Sehr harmonisch, zum Ende hefiger, weiterhin trocken. Die Kräuter rücken nun in den Vordergrund. Hier sehr gleichbleibend, fast monoton, auch durch die Trockenheit. Leicht herb. Eine gelungene Erfrischung! 8/8/9/9/9/9

Strange brew, and I don’t mean there’s a mouse in the bottle (any McKenzie Brothers fans still out there? No? Shit.) Fairly ugly, very little carbonation to glam things up, but the heather provides an herbal twist to the typical English toffee-and-overripe-fruit nose. Tastes straight English ale, buttery, pungent, overpowering whatever additions the heather provides. But the label is friggin’ awesome! (2008)

Brown bottle, 500 ml, best before MAR 2012, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savoured on April 28 2011; eye: golden, clear, minimal effervescence, tiny sheet of off-white head; nose: heather, malt, corn, light honey; mouth: heather, malt, corn, light acridness, finale in heather with light acrid presence, medium body, rather carbonated, slightly sweet, grainy texture; overall: different FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, meilleure avant MAR 2012, via Importations Privées Bièropholie (merci Hughes!), savourée le 28 avril 2011; œil : dorée, claire, effervescence minime, petite couverture de mousse blanc cassé; nez : gruyère, malt, maïs, léger miel; bouche : bruyère, malt, maïs, légère âcreté, finale en bruyère avec légère présence âcre, corps moyen, plutôt carbonatée, très légèrement sucrée, texture granuleuse; en résumé : différente

Pours a clear golden color with a stingy white head that leaves my glass quickly. Smells of cooked corn, subtle floral fragrance which I assume is heather, a bit of ginger, some grainy malt maybe a bit of toffee as well. Taste is floral, herbal, with a grainy honey malt kind of feel to it. Crisp carbonation, medium body, sweet thin syrupy mouthfeel. I liked this one! Its different, but the herbs don’t attack you like some other gruit brews that Ive tried. Light crisp and clean, if it wasn’t so expensive I’d drink this more.

500mL bottle, pours clear copper with a small white head. Flavour of honey, whiskey malt, and pungent Heather flowers. Flavour of floral notes upfront, with honey and various spices that follow. Quite decent.
