Ingredients: Malts: British Pale Ale Malt, Cara Malt, Malted Wheat. Heather, Bogmyrtle (Sweet Gale).
The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 03/01/2012. Clear golden pour with a medium frothy white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing. Herbal, floral aroma. Light body with a floral character and notes of sweet fruit and earthy malt. The finish is sweet with a floral honey aftertaste. Average overall.

Clear lager like appearance and the taste isn’t that far away from a lager necessarily, but there is something else interesting going on. A little bit of tang I assume comes from the flowers and a definite floral smell. The beer grows on me, though I’m not sure how much like the original 2000BC beer this one actually is. Doesn’t seem like it would have been this golden clear back then, but who knows. It has some character. Bottle from giftpack

Aroma of sweet floral honey....taste of sweet floral honey, bit herbal, smooth, easy for 5%. Good very smooth palate, finish soft quite sweet honey malts, floral and soft herbal notes, little spicy too. It’s quite unusual but it’s well made, subtle flavours, not overpowering, but I’d only want the 1 bottle. 3.5

Light amber, clear, frothy white head that dissipates to thin layer.
Aroma of sweet malts, some sweet candy, bit herbal-vegetal. Quite a light aroma.
Taste of sweet malt, very very slight impression of cinnamon (without the bitterness), herbal slight aromatic notes. Sweet, quite unusual and pleasant.
Palate - soft carb, medium body, bit syrupy texture. Finish - continuation of main flavour, sweet, slight hint of grass, some honey, bit of a sweet linger then clears.
Overall - I have ignored this beer for too long (perhaps the label is offputting) thinking it is some gimmicky beer for tourists. It’s really quite nice, bit sweet to session, but doesn’t taste 5%.

Bottle at home in NH, shared with all. Pours clear gold with a bubbly, foamy head. Definite flower aroma, some sugar hints. Light to medium sweet flavor, touches of honey, caramel and straight sugar, very faint grassy bitters. Light to medium bodied with delicate and smooth carbonation. Mildly sweet finish, some flowers, honeysuckle. Alright beer.

Bottle from Sourced @ St Pancras. It pours golden yellow with soft carbonation and a thick, foamy white head. The nose is very floral, heather, chamomile, honey and wood. The taste is tangy lemon, lime, floral, bread, hay, heather, metal and soap, with a dry finish. It is very floral and easy to drink.
