Amber, average carbonation. Sweet and bitter, a lot of herbs, lemon, grass. Not bad

500ml bottle - a flat copper looking copper pour, nothing in the nose that stands out, a bit grassy if anything. Nothing offensive in the taste, but nothing shines either, I suppose floral sums it up.

At the Mercat. Pours golden to amber with a slim head. The nose has sweet smelling herbs, honey and some grassiness. The taste has more of the same with a toffee note. The palate is excellent - medium to full bodied, with a thick creamy texture and a beautiful elegant texture, Overall, a great beer.

Total Wine, Fairfax 11.2oz ($3): Pours a dark gold color with a white head. Aroma is malts, heathers (I assume), and frutiiness. Beer is sweet, but in a unique way. The sugariness is somewhat different from other beers, kind of like honey suckle or something. The floral aspects are there, but obviously in different ways than what people generally talk about in relation to beer (i.e. not floral hops). There was plenty of fruitiness. Good body. This was an interesting beer, and I am glad to have tried it after years of procrastination.

A nice aroma and a good-looking pint. There’s nothing much wrong with Froach, I wasn’t keen on the backtaste but it isn’t overpowering. Something a bit different and quite pleasant.

Golden colour with a grey head. Aroma of roasted bread, chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. Very sweet flavours, but not overly so - being balanced by a hint of bitterness.

April 2008: Brown 500ml bottle with a fancy label. I love trying different styles and drinking around the world while sat at home. This was the second beer on one such evening, a Bulgarian (crap) lager was first, I’m in Belgium next. Froach is gaelic for heather. Heather Ales have been brewed in Scotland for four thousand years and claim to be the oldest style of beer still made today. This one had a life that was due to end before July 2009, I drank it in April 2008. Poured into one of my Gordons thistle shaped glasses it was a really light amber colour with a small white head that left the scene almost immediatley. I like my beers with a head, it’s just me, but that’s what I want to see. The beer may have been a bit to cold as no aroma was present at first, but as it warmed a slight peaty, flowery smell arrived to add an extra dimention to the beer. At first it tasted like a fizzy ginger beer too me. There was loads of cabonisation, but it wasn’t ginger I was getting, there was none of the hotness ginger gives. The flavour was strangely different, but pleasant, not even beery in some aspects. No hops are used in the brewing process and the heather flowers along with some other weird ingrediants gell to make a very interesting beer indeed. I difficult one to nail down, a bit gassy, but otherwise a very different beer. I really liked it, couldn’t drink it all night, but well worth finding. I will buy it again.

Bottle from Morrisons, Hatch End. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Interesting floral, grassy type aroma. Tastes malty, floral, fruity, dry, spice. Improved as it went on.
