Ingredients: Malts: British Pale Ale Malt, Cara Malt, Malted Wheat. Heather, Bogmyrtle (Sweet Gale).

The Brotherhood have been guardians of the ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) since 1988 and are proud to be the only brewery still producing this unique style of beer and distributing it world wide. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, and a spicy herbal finish - This beer allows you to literally pour 4000 years of Scottish history into a glass.

Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a mostly clear dark gold with minimal head. Aroma is quite sweet. Honey and something slightly herbal. Taste is medium sweet. Honey and clove. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Not bad overall. I would drink it again.

Bottle from Morrisons. Amber colour. Thin, white head. Sweet malt, some floweriness, as you’d expect. Taste is a sweet start, light, slightly peppery finish. The wrong side of sweet, for me.

The smell is like of raspberry fruit, plus a bit like lavender. Aroma is a bit of flower, a bit of herbs, but nothing like hops, rather like gruit. Pale colour, quickly diminishing head. The beer is rather dry, with small bitterness. Medium body, creamy texture, lively carbonation - too big for me. Ok, it’s interesting, but I won’t drink it often.

500ml bottle. Golden amber colour, foamy white head and very slight spicy herbal aroma. Taste is vanilla and blackberry, herbal, malty, some bitterness plus a lingering warming spicy dry mouth feel and some peaty notes. Herbal rather than hoppy, OK.

0,33cl bottle from Brewdog Slovensko. Aroma is floral, citrus fruits, lemony, grassy. Clear deep golden colour, moderately sized head, quickly disappearing. Taste is honey sweet, spicy, lemony, zesty, lightly tart. Quite nicely balanced considering the different flavours, nothing is overpowering. Finish is lemony, zesty, grassy, medium duration. Few bonus points, because it is not as good as it is interesting. Not many occasions for me to try a traditional ale with almost no hops (no flavour, aroma, or bitterness). This comes in nicely balanced and easily drinkable.
