This complex Double India Pale Ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA, we have brewed an ale that is both please to drink, and once again, "Not Normal."

Bottle via trade with George, shared at Jack’s farewell tasting. It pours clear golden-amber with a large off-white head. The nose is juicy tangerine, orange, passion fruit, sherbet and light pine. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, pine, zesty orange, grapefruit, tangerine, passion fruit, icing sugar and some alcohol with a clean finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. In reality probably a touch sweet for my liking, but it is smooth, tasty and rather easy drinking....

Bottle at Bruce’s in London. Many thanks to Paul. Pours lightly hazy with a bubbly white head. Semi-ripe citrus aroma, a bit of dry pine, tangerine. Medium sweet flavor, lots of dry, bitter pine and straw, orange, mango, light alcohol. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finish is warming and fairly resinous, some sugary citrus, orange, a bit of white bread, nectarine. Quite tasty.

22oz bottle poured into an english pint. Pours a clear rust orange with minimal head. Aroma of light citrus and pine with caramel. Taste is light bitter and medium sweet. Citrus and resinous pine with loads of caramel and toffee on the back end. Full bodied with a sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long boozy finish. Overall, not bad. Not as good as i was expecting.

Bottle. Pours clear orange amber with a medium creamy white head and great lacing. Aroma is somewhat disappointing, piney, with just a touch of citrus and caramel. Flavor is better, light sweet, light to medium bitter, citrus and pine dominate, with a touch of tropical. Mouthfeel is indeed creamy, body is medium.

On draft at the brew pub. Pours a cloudy gold with an off white head. Grassy hops with a pronounce sweet malt backbone. Bitter finish. Not of the caliber of dreadnaught, but pretty damn good.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is floral hop, pine, and grapefruit. Thin mouthfeel with sweet hop and strong citrus flavor with nice light bitter finish. Easy to drink, a very good IIPA from Three Floyds.

11.0% version. Hazy amber - gold beer, tidy white head. Smooth soft palate. Mild fine carbonation. Creamy malt, airy. Sweet pine and tangerine pith with sweet tropical fruits. A little aniseed. Smooth finish. Another soft light DIPA from Three Floyds. Effortless quality as usual!

Hazy golden coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall light tan coloured head and a decent amount of bubbles rising from the bottom. Aroma of pure, full cone hops with a pine, grassy and very resinous aroma, a ton of malt, a lot of alcohol and almost an entire christmas tree tucked in the bottle. Full-bodied; Dense malty flavour at first with a ton of piney, grassy and herbal hops. Aftertaste is super strong with the alcohol and malt hitting the hardest, then showing a lot of grassy and herbal notes with some verbena tea and lemons in the mix and a ton of more alcohol and a pungent hop finish. Overall, a super strong beer with a ton of malt and somehow even more hops. This is what I’d expect from an Imperial IPA from Three Floyds and it didn’t disappoint. Perhaps, its too big of a beer, especially for the large format bottle, but this again, is what you expect from the brewery. Nice to sample and definitely worth trying if you can find it and you enjoy the style or hops in general - this is the epitome of the style. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Discount Liqour in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on 05-September-2012 for US$9.99 sampled at home in Washington in a mini-celebration for finishing the Marine Corps Marathon 10K (no full race this year, due to baby Claire) on 28-October-2012.
