This complex Double India Pale Ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA, we have brewed an ale that is both please to drink, and once again, "Not Normal."

22 oz. bottle, sent from FullObs (thanks Brett), pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is full of citrus and tropical fruits, pungent citrus and floral hops, and the candied (or milk) sugar. Flavour is extremely potent, full of tropical fruits (mango, pineapple), truckloads of citrusy hops, and a perfect amount of the milk sugar. An extreme hop bomb, so expertly crafted yet again by Three Floyds. This is sort of like a slightly less hoppy version of Dreadnaught with more sweetness. Excellent stuff.

Finally cracked into my 22oz bottle that was brought back from Indiana by my buddy raveskdr. Poured a slightly cloudy golden-orange color with a large foamy white head. Aroma was nice pine hop, with some notes of tropical fruit notes. Malt character is quite nice in the flavor, considering I always worry that I’m about to consume a malt bomb that happens to have a good bouquet for the nose. For 11% or whatever - the beer is surprisingly easy to drink.

Purchased at a Whole Foods on the outskirts of Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a hot Sunday night in the dog days of summer. Appearance is a slightly cloudy dark gold with a thin white head that laces to the glass. Aroma of intense citrus notes with enriched caramel malt/sweetness. Taste is very citrusy with a bite that may be subdued from the addition of lactose. I can pinpoint the lactose in here and it has a distinct flavor that makes it lightly chewy, which doesn’t really happen with IPA’s. Pretty damn good stuff, 2nd time I’ve had it and this is better than the first one I had.

22oz bottle. First thought - Incredibly smooth! The aroma is magnificent - true to form on an imperial IPA and pretty unique. I usually compare all double IPAs to Hopslam and while this is really really good, Hopslam is still king.

Pours a hazy golden yellow, not unlike a wheat beer. Good-sized head that rapidly dissipates. Strong hop/citrus aroma and very complex mixture of citrus flavors with bitter hop bite. Has a very full feeling to it; heavy, almost syrupy mouthfeel with an almost hidden sweetness to it. This is a good one.

10oz pour at the brewpub is very hazy and a burnt yellow with very little, lacing white head. Smells vaguely European, candy sugar, tropical fruit, a little musty, a little banana, a little spice. Flavor is off, some citrus, a little medicinal, malty, candy sweetness. Not a whole ton of citrus. Full bodied, cloying finish. Not their best effort.

Bottle. Sweet honey tangerine malt and light grapefruit/pine aroma. Cloudy golden yellow color with minimal head. Sweet tangerine/apricot malt and light citrus/hay hops flavor. Low carbonation. Pretty good - hops pretty subdued - not sure how old this was.
