About as sweet as I can take a stout, but man, what a big glob of chocolate, caramel, and bourbon, followed up by anise, black cherry, oak, and vanilla, with hints of tobacco and mocha. Oozes out of the bottle, with a nice boozy warmth and loads of bourbon and oak on the nose. Not sold on any other style they make, but holy shit can Prairie make a stout.

35,5 cl bottle @ olio
Aroma has liquor and licorice. Also rubbery tones. Flavour has salty licorice, liquor, herbal tones and alcohol. Too sharp alcohol here and also the rubbery tones disturb a bit.

Zwart bier zonder schuim. Smaak is warm, zoet en krachtig met iets van chocolade, bourbon, vanille, koffie en een heel klein beetje anijs. Geweldig bier!

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/6/2017. Pours pitch black color with a small fairly dense tan head with decent retention, that reduces to thin ring of lace eventually. Minimal spotty lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, cake batter, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, smoke, char, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Increasing booze in the aromas as it warmed, but not too overwhelming. Damn nice aroma with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, cake batter, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, smoke, char, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very minimal roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, fudge, marshmallow, cake batter, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, dark/brown bread, light licorice/dark fruit/smoke, leather, tobacco, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and bourbon barrel flavors; with a decent roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Slight sticky hop, chalky roast, oak tannin, and increasing dryness. Mildly increasing warmth of 11%, with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this an amazing barrel aged imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously smooth to sip on for the big ABV, with the very mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. I had high expectations with 4 BA Prairie stouts being in my top 50. This did not match up, but still extremely impressive. Extremely rich imperial stout malt complexity, with perfect barrel integration. Never overly boozy, tannic, or drying. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example as expected.

Bottle at home. Black with small dark brown head. Lots of bourbon, marshmallows, vanilla, sweet chocolates, toffee, hazelnuts, brown sugar. Lots of candy, almost candy floss, 🍭, sweet chocolate desserts. Creamy oats, light grains and some brandy. Very sweet and medium bitter. Almost full bodied with creamy feel, but it’s also slick and a little think in the finish. Yeah this is crazy over the top, but I love these kind of beers!

Always a winner. Tons of dark fruit, cacao, berry, coconut and vanilla. Whisky run amuck. Fruity and chocolate with whisky throughout.
