A tropical double IPA with a death metal kick to the codpiece
Collaborators: Beavertown / Garage Project / Stone
Glorious-crank-it-to-‘11’-cacophony is what happens when intense tropical fruit gets a flashpot addition of pyrotechnic heat from habanero. The result is a literal world tour, as three globe-trotting breweries collaborated on this immensely thunderous soundstorm of a beer.
Masters of brewing Beavertown (UK) and Garage Project (New Zealand) worked with us in San Diego to brew this double IPA with a power trio of kiwi, yuzu and habanero. Yuzu and habanero, sure, but who knew kiwi fruit could be so metal. Add in a colossal hop character to ride the lightning of the subtle but fiery heat. Hops, fruit, heat…And Juiciness For All.
Call up your mosh mates, crank up the tunes, throw this beer in the fridge and chill ‘em all.
We have known the Garage Project guys, Pete Gillespie and Jos Ruffell, for a while and have brewed with them a few times in the past - last year in Japan at Coedo and recently with Kris Ketcham at Stone Brewing - Liberty Station, but never at our flagship brewery in Escondido. We have also known Logan Plant from Beavertown for a few years, have been to his brewery in London, and have been very impressed by the beers and his approach to brewing. We had been looking for just the right opportunity to brew with him. This recipe is a true representation of joining our three breweries with New Zealand hops, English yeast, and some American hops, plus our Stone style of brewing IPAs. This is a very unique and wonderful beer. Enjoy it while you can get it!

Beaverfest. Day 1. Keg. Hazy gold beer, small white head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth malts bring a thin creamy sweetness. Good piney hop. Modest hop skunk. Resinous orange and tangerine. Mild hop spice. Light and semi dry DIPA but enough hops to satisfy.

Not enough spice or fruit, but not bad. I actually get none of the habanero :(

(Keg at Sori Taproom, 20171212) The beer poured deep golden and nearly clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, tangerine and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation and chilli burning . Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, hoppy and bitter. A surprisingly pleasant hoppy brew with chilli twist.

Draught @ Sori Taproom, Helsinki. Pours cloudy dark orange with a small head. Aroma of juicy fruits, tropical notes, zesty lemon, citrus and pine. Taste is juicy tropical fruity, citrusy and zesty with some hints of tartish yuzu, spices and malts. Finish is juicy tropical fruity and full bodied with some hints of yuzu and spices. A nice twist on a juicy DIPA, pretty good.

22oz bomber pours with an opaque glowing orange gold body that supports a nice creamy off white head of foam. The modest aroma offers up warm cantaloupe, tangelo.and then a thin floral hoppiness. The taste delivers smooth somewhat soft tangy juicy tangerine and then the tropical notes like guava and kiwi. Toward the finish it picks up additional hop notes that are earthy tea and faintly minty and floral. This flavors come together wonderfully with balance and depth. Solid IIPA experience.

Lovely tasty and balanced double ipa.
Hazy golden color with a fine white head. Good lacing. Looks nice and inviting. Nice aroma with a fine intensity. Medium + body and a smooth carbonation level. Easy to drink. Balanced sweetness and bitterness. Lasting tail. Fruity, grapefruit hoppy and pine in the flavor. Some faint spiced notes, but did not notice any habanero. And that is good.
[On tap at Café Sara in Oslo, Norway]

Tåkete lys brun med fingerhøyt hvitt skum. Lukter sydhavsfrukter, ananas og noe grapefrukt. Middels fylde og bitterhet. Søtlig i smak, sydhavsfrukt, sitrusskall og grapefrukt. Middels lang.
