Ale aged in oak wine barrels with blackberries added.
Late in the summer of 2012, we received a phone call from a farmer on the Western Slope. She informed us that she had a field full of delicious blackberries that were ready for harvest, but no one to sell them to. We had a batch our dark sour that tasted delightful and was ready for fruit, so we were happy to buy them.
We let those fresh, whole Colorado blackberries age in our dark sour for over two months. The resulting flavors were a mix of dark fruit notes that accentuate the rich caramel malt and vanilla notes in the dark sour. We can’t wait for that farmer’s next phone call.

750mL bottle, assumedly recent, sampled 3/15/14
Dark red raspberry/cola colored beer has a fizzy, burgundy tinged head that runs for the edges quickly.
A quick burst of blackberry notes are quickly ushered out of the way by heavy, heavy valeric/isovaleric acidity. Burning band-aids, cheese rind, limeskin, that sort of thing.
Light caramel and blackberry flavor is immediately bullied by the massive brett tart/sourness. Nearly acetone-like, with just too much biting, gripping tartness. Unripened green apple extract concentrated. Seems like the fermentation temps were just way too high. Overattenuated to the extreme.

750ML, Looks like robitussin. dark maroon cherry, no head. Super vinegar heavy, sweet and raisins with cherry wine. Holy crap, this is a sour bomb. tastes like really cheap sour candies I had as a kid, apples and fruit by the foot.
