Baron’s Strong Brew is a high quality European-inspired brew that has won over the hearts and taste buds of many beer drinkers with its full-bodied taste since its introduction in 1997. Baron’s strength lies in its winning combination of an authentic German brewing process together with the amalgamation of the finest European hops and malt, resulting in the unmistakably strong and smooth taste of Baron’s Strong Brew. Within its first year, Baron’s bagged both the gold medal in the high-alcohol segment at the world-renowned Brewing Industry International Awards in the United Kingdom and the International Sial D’or Award in Paris.

Nice clear golden coloured body with a thinnish slightly off-white head that dies very quickly. Aroma of metal, apricots, strong malt, alcohol and yes - more metal. Medium-bodied; Strong malt presence with a bit of alcohol, some light apricot and peach flavours and a lot more metal and cardboardie malt. Aftertaste has alcohol, but not overly so. More malt and metal, but once again, not horrible. Overall, according to the rankings I was expecting much worse, but wasn’t so bad, and to be perfectly honest, the 8.8% abv was pretty well hidden. I sampled this 323 mL (odd size) can, purchased from 7-11 (yes, they have them everywhere) in Singaore, Singapore 25-August-2007, sampled at home in Washington on 09-March-2009, while this batch (according to the bottom of the can) was brewed on 01-August-2007.

(Can 32,3 cl) Courtesy of fiulijn. Clear, deep golden with a dense, off-white head. Sweet aroma of corn and alcohol. Quite full-bodied, notes of sweet brewing cereal, a little corn and some perfumy flower accents. The finish has a raw bitterness and some alcohol. 160408

Dark golden, clear beer, well-carbonated to small, yellow head. Nose of alcohol, sherry, higher alcohols, and despite all this, delicate. Sherry again in the taste, sweet, but not too sweet; cookies and fine grains. Bit of alcoholwarming, not really dry; medium bodied. Nice, if not really Belgian, this is quite good, IMO. According to the brewery, this ought to be a Belgian Pale strong ale.

Dark honey golden color, small white head. Aroma of apple peels, cider, malts and alcohol. Light to medium bodied. Quite weak palate. Alcohol comes in later with warming effect. Papery malty, clean but inspiring strong lager. Re-rated Indian version, Asian Pacific Brewery Mahatrast, alc. 7.5% Similar to rating from Malaysian can. Golden color, white head. Apple-fruity and grainy aroma. Taste is similar: apple, petrol, alcohol. Same numbers than in Malaysian version.
