A full malt barley wine of 13% by volume, which is brewed once a year; fermented with beer and wine yeast.

With L’ensemble we find the limit. Not only the boundary of the maximum possible, because 13% is extremely heavy for a full malt beer. But also the boundary between beer and wine, because to get this amount of alcohol, a part of the fermentation uses wine yeast. Brewing and fermenting this unique beer requires much time and attention. Partly because we make this beer only once a year and comes on the market when it becomes winter season. A perfect companion to the Christmas season! Deliciously warming.

Sample during Blarney Wine Festival 2018 on 03/17/2018. Pours a dark reddish-amber color with a medium bone white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. The aroma consists of smoked malt, fruit and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of smokey malt, fruit, caramel and mild hops. The finish is slightly vinous with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

Donkerbruin bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is krachtig en intens, licht zoet en vol van nuances met iets van fruit zoals bessen en braam en rozijn. Geweldig bier!

Tap at Cafe Rose Red, 12th February 17. Pours a red brown, fairly flat. Aroma is candy, brown sugar. Taste is sweet, caramel, some fruit, slight smoke. The 13% is hidden to such an extent is amazing, however for such a strong beer I expected more complexity and depth of flavour, this tap version was a little one dimensional and simple. I hope the 2014 bottle I have will improve and be good with age.

Infocard is hanging with rope in the neck of bottle, it’s attched with a red wax seal. Dignified. A dark, reddish brown beer a head is medium and light beige. Aroma has strong dried and concentrated fruitness, also some fresh fruits, raisins, apricot, perries, some strenght of alcohol. Taste has dried fruitness. plums, raisin, some bitterness to balancing the sweetness. Not too sweet. Full bodied, not heavy. Good beer, but too simple. Easy to enjoy, anyway.
