Our flagship IPA won best beer on show at the 2011, 2012 and 2014 Cape Town Festival of Beer, the 2014 Johannesburg Festival of Beer – and was the winner of the 2014 SAB Craft Brewer Championship. Enjoy our take on this iconic style.
Aroma: A prominent to hop aroma with a citrusy, floral, resinous, piney, and passion fruit character derived from the American hops. It has been dry hopped to add aroma. Some clean malty sweetness may be found in the background, but is a lot lower level than in English examples.
Appearance: Color is medium gold. It is almost clear, which is achieved through fining. Good head with white to off-white color should persist.
Flavour: Hop flavour is medium-high and will reflect typical American hop characters with citrusy, floral, resinous, piney and passion fruit aspects. Medium-high hop bitterness is present, although the malt backbone will support the strong hop character and provide for good balance. Medium-dry to dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Smooth medium-bodied mouthfeel without hop-derived astringency, although moderate carbonation can combine to render an overall dry sensation in the presence of malt sweetness.
Overall Impression: A decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American India Pale Ale.

330ml bottle. Cloudy, orange golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney and citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, biscuity, pale malty background, notes of orange, mandarine, some grapefruit and pineapple. Taste is crisp, bitter, resinous, piney and citrusy fruity hoppy, sweet-ish, biscuity, pale malty basis, notes of grapefruit, orange, lemon, some mandarine, pineapple, orange peel. Watery texture, dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Clean, balanced, refreshing - good!

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy gold color with an off white head and good retention. Decent lacing. Euro malt aroma. Euro malt flavor too with a light soapy finish. Something tastes off. Light hops notes and almost no bitterness. It's not bad, but definitely different than American beers. Hard to believe this is 56 IBU.

Bottle at home, golden beer, small head. Aroma is citrus, lemon, light sweet, light pine, hops. Taste is the same, bittersweet, lemon, not bad.

Clear gold with a rich white head. Light sweet grains and a touch of cardboard. Perfumy, touch of bitterness and a long finish. This is old so not a fair rating, but it was decent.

Old 440mL bottle, pours a clear golden with a large white head. Aroma is oxidized, with bready malt and faded piney hops. Flavour has lots of cardboard, with faded piney hops, bready malt, and a touch of citrus. For a 3-year-old IPA, this is surprisingly drinkable. My rating reflects how I assume this would be fresh.

Fra fat på Beerhouse on Long, Cape Town feb-20: klar gylden med fint skum som varer. Deilig citruskombo med mango og furunål. Juicy, competently banlanced and eminently refreshing, in fact one of the best I had during our trip to South Africa.
