Bottle from Great Grog, Edinburgh [200413] Bottled 31/1/13
Black, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, deep roasted coffee grounds, dab of burnt toast, soft marmite, bit of smoke
Taste of roastred malts, some dark bitter chocolate, touch of liquorice, charred notes in there, alcohol well hidden, charcoal
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, oily creamy texture. Finish is creamy, bitter roast finish with some creamy dark plain chocolate, dryish tail with some charred roast
Overall - Well made beer that’s for sure, lots of high ratings here, for me it was rather over roasted - I’m more a fan of impys than foreign stouts

Bottle from the brewery. Now I don’t know what it is with stouts, I either love them or they leave me a bit cold. Certainly not my style of choice. But I like this brewer and brewery so here goes. Black beer with lasting beige head. Roasted malt and choc aroma. With some coffee too. Good mouthfeel, good fullness in mouth, good blend of the above flavours. The mocha flavour works really well. I like me some good coffee and the finish is just a fantastic coffee flavour. Wow, I didn’t really realise it was that strong in ABV. Wow. Well it’s good. Especially the aftertaste which is really good as is the alcohol buzz with no heat and no burn at all. Silky. Yes, one of the stouts I do like. Andy you are a bit of brewing genius. Good beer.
