Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast’s longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds with winter-weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows. In its darkened depths our inner voids are warmed. 12.0° Plato

Bottled. Poured adarkish brown to black, some nutty chocolatey coffee notes but a bit watery. Ok.

Bottle....I feel a little dirty putting this in a nice beer snifter ...this is a schwarzbier? ...it pours a very dark brown , like flat coca cola...beige head is pretty flat too...it smells quite metallic...I taste some watery molasses and state smoke, a metallic taste throughout with more metal in the finish...metal metal metal lol......rating from 3-8-2010

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a dark mahogany colored body with a tiny white head that dies fairly quickly.
The smell had coffee, and really kinda overbearing
The taste had the coffee come back with light hops, almost barely noticeable.
The palate was about a medium/heavy, not that sessionable at all, thick coffee aftertaste and finish.
Overall, this is decent for the style, however this is a \"meal\" beer, too heavy for me and with the low ABV, I was confused why it felt as heavy as it did.

bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small light tan head. It was a malty, chocolate accented aroma. The flavor is roast malt with not much more going on. It’s one dimensional to me, an okay but uninteresting medium bodied brew.

12oz bottle from Pick’s poured into a shaker. Pours a dark brown/black with a thin ring of off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasty nuts. Taste is medium bitter. Mostly coffee with a little chocolate then heavily coffee on the aftertaste. Unfortunately, it kinda has that carbonation taste of when the soda machine goes out at a restraunt and all you get is the carbonated water...yech! Light bodied with a thin texture. Fizzy carbonation and an average finish. Overall, it’s not too bad. I’m usually not to impressed with Magic Hat stuff but this one is probably the best I’ve had yet. Drinkable but really nothing too special.

Out of a bottle. Aromas and flavors of full roasted malt. Nice crispness and medium mouthfeel for a lager. Nice clear black.
