Semi-restrained hop nose is resiny and citric, with some caramel-bread maltiness apparent. The flavor is similar, tending more toward citrus with the hops and a full caramelly malt palate, somewhat balanced finish. A fair beer, not exciting or ground breaking but drinkable enough. Copper color, hard to produce a head, low carbonation.

22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, oranges, mangos, and pineapples, and caramel malt. Flavour is very tropical fruity, citrus hops, sweet caramelized malts to back. Very fruity and semi-sweet without being cloying. Delicious.

Purchased at a beer store in Maryland. Not sure about its freshness. Poured into a pint glass at 39 Degrees F Bottle says: 26411 / 20240k+ A - Dark tan haze with hints of amber. Poured a 2 finger clear but creamy head with tight bubbles. S - Almonds, pine and not much hoppiness. The pine is minimal and I don’t get much of the hop tones in a double IPA but again this may be older than ideal. T - I don’t know how this is fresh but there’s almost no hop / bitterness left in this beer! Lots of vanilla, some sweetness and nuts but the woodiness / pine notes are alost gone completely. It’s a very bland and muted Double IPA M - Lots of carbonation, medium bodied O - I’m disappointed but other reviews makes me think this beer is no longer fresh. It’s new to me but must have been on the shelf for a while.

bottle thanks to beerbill, pours a deep caramel with a medium dense tan head. Aroma is very nice, slightly nutty with lots of caramel and biscuit in the nose, leafy pine resin hop notes as well. Flavor is rich doughy malt and caramel, toasted nuts, pine and citrus hops, very well balanced, I would have loved to try this fresh, a great brew! 9%!!?!!, I could drink this stuff all day!

copper cloudy, white head. aroma and flavors, lots of nice caramel malts, pine hops and citrus. profile remains a little more on the malty side with ample caramel and roast. As the beer warms up the pine side and hops become a tad more forward.

2014-03-13, draught at Rogue Kitchen & Wetbar (Convention Centre), Vancouver, 7-4-7-4-13=35
12oz

Cloudy amber color, dull hue, small head. The aroma is fruity, but there is a very light sourness too. Compared to its gravity, the body is quite lean; malt flavor with a caramel and hay touch; light residual sweetness; strong bitterness, in balance with the rest; a lot of orangey hop oils; bit also an infinitesimal sourness.
Good, but this keg either doesn’t seem fresh.

I was looking to try this beer in good conditions and fresh, instead it pours a murky light brown color with almost no head. The aroma is sourish. Good body; malt, with very light sourness; strong bitterness, resiny, old fruits.
Meh.

2010-06-27, bottle, as Legacy Hoptimus Prime Double IPA, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Hazy orange-amber color; small head. There is some malt and hop aroma, but it’s also a bit stale, and with very light cheese rind impression (this is not bad) and smoke. Reasonable body strength, strong toffee and caramel flavor, quite sweet, with a strong bitterness, candeish, a bit resiny, and still with traces of fruits (bitter oranges). Obvious powerful final, with toffee, caramel and bitterness. Solid brew, pleasant.
Unfortunately, another bottle that I spoiled, keeping it too long (since Sept ’08), waiting to share it…

Tap @ Boston/NY 2009. Clear orange color, short head. Grassy hop, caramel malt, corn. Is this a double IPA? Way too weak for that.

Location: Since this is now Ruckus Hoptimus Prime, and no longer Legacy, I figured I'd do some updating of this rating with a 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 2/8/12

Aroma: The nose is fairly citrusy, with some pine hops and caramel malts present as well
Appearance: It pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a small white head and spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is what you would expect from the nose, sweet citrus and caramel, and bitter hops
Palate: This one has a nice drinkability, with a medium (plus) body, and an average-to-soft carbonation
Overall Impression: I enjoyed this one. It is a nice Double IPA, with a good flavor and a nice balance between the fairly big citrusy sweetness and the big hop bitterness. Those flavors are both fairly pronounced and enjoyable to drink in this beer. I think my score may actually go up a touch here, maybe the beer was a little fresher? I don't know, but I think I enjoyed it even a touch more. (3.9: 8/3/8/4/16)

Location: 22 oz bottle from Norm's, 8/31/09

Aroma: Pine, spice (pepper), bit of grapefruit, caramel, orange
Appearance: Hazy orange color, thin white head, a bit of lace (borderline 3/4)
Flavor: Hops upfront, as the hops burn away a backing of malt, and some peppery spice take over for the hop bitterness, balanced IIPA
Palate: I got no alcohol burn at all here, dryish, interesting mouthfeel, medium body
Overall Impression: Aroma is a bit lacking in power compared to most DIPAs, but the flavor is pretty enjoyable. Has a nice mouthfeel that I'm quite able to do justice in description, but enjoyable none-the-less. This is certainly not a good beer, but it isn't reaching the upper echelons of my Imperial IPA list. (3.7: 7/3/8/4/15)

A tall, creamy off-white head sits above the clear, medium gold body. Fresh citrus hop aroma. Bitter, but only slightly so as the malt base is right there too. Not overly complex or awe inspiring as IIPAs go, but soilid with no flaws.
