100% BRETT FERMENTED.
Technically, this is neither an ale nor a lager. The base recipe is for a Golden Ale, but we do the primary fermentation with 100% brettanomyces. The brett gives it some sour notes but not as much as if it had been aged with lacto and pedio. It’s rather refreshing on a warm day!

From tap at Russian River, Santa Rosa. Aroma is Bretty barnyard funk with tart fruits, citrussy lemon, a touch of stone fruit including apricot. Flavour is a nice medium sour. Body is medium. It’s like a light Gueuze, could use some age.

Very hazy golden coloured body with a very large-bubbled white head that is very small and is only a centimetre tall at maximum - odd - and it fades very quickly. Aroma of super funky, soured, tart and bretty notes of course, with some lemons, wheat, grass, hay, funk, barnyardie notes and a dash of flowers here, very nice in the nose and much better than the awful look here! Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal notes dominate with a lot of funky characteristics and a light lemon and citrus component with some perfumey funk as well here. Aftertaste is dry, a bit herbal with some light spice notes noticeable here, but this is pretty mild and soft with the funky bretty notes throughout, especially in the soured and tart aspects in the nose. Overall, a decent, but not great beer, but does show a lot of funky and herbal notes with a lot of characteristics and some bretty qualities including soured fruit, tart lemons, a dash of grass, hay, wet socks, funky barnyard notes and some animal urine, too, of course. Nice to sample right after purchase as my last beer here in California! I sampled this 375 mL corked and caged bottle, purchased from Whole Foods in San Francisco (SoMA), California on 28-August-2022 for US$6,99 sampled in my hotel room here in Vacaville, California on 30-August-2022.

Süffiger, trocken brettiger Beginn. Etwas Zitrus, ansonsten keine Säure. Leicht erhöhte Karbonisierung, milde Süße, weiter Brett. Spritzig, weich, hohe Süffigkeit. Langer Nachhall. 10/11/12/11/10/11

Bottle (2011) pour in bottle share--thanks WillRunForBeer! Appearance is pale yellow with no sparkle, no head and no lacing. Aroma is mildly tart fruit. Taste is strong tart fruit. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, thin texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, more tart than sour without a ton of complexity. However, given Brett can really turn me off, quite tolerable.
