On tap at the 2010 installment of Stogies and Stouts pouring deep darkness with dark brown edges and tan head. The aroma is pretty darn full with chili peppers and with hints of dark roastiness around the edges. The taste starts with roasty dark malts and chili peppers. The chili flavor begins chili vegetable like with a sense of heat and then convolving into more and more chili heat burn. The chili heat gets to a non trivial level and squashes out the modest dark roastiness and whatever else may have been going on there. Oddly enough deep into the after taste some chocolate and dark roastiness sort of coat the mouth around the edges of a long lingering burn. Very interesting tasting beer that I wouldn’t hesitate to try again.

Tap @ Dunedin for Stogies and Stouts ’10. After enjoying the Dieu du Ciel Route des Epices, I was intrigued by Dunedin’s black pepper beer. This one pours dark brown, thin off-white head. Aroma of mild black pepper, hints of roasted/chocolate malts. Flavor, light chocolate malts/roast, pepper doesn’t become too present at first but slowly covers the back palate coming to a climatic warming pepper finish. The peppery mouthfeel is not overdone and blends perfectly with the low abv. of the Croon base beer. Tasty!
