At Salt Lick at the airport: pours near black with a beige head. Aroma is roast, cocoa, hints of coffee, notes, mere notes, of pecan. Taste is a robust porter. Chocolate, coffee, nuttiness, with a dry sort of bitterness, but with a bit of sweetness there as well.

On tap at Bouldin Creek Cafe, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out toasted pecans, a hint of brown sugar and light roast. Flavour is rich, with loads of toasted pecans, roasted malt, and caramelized sugar. Rich and complex, and beautifully balanced. Wonderful.

Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Black with small beige head. Aroma of maple, licorice and pecan. Mid sweet with medium-full body and rounded mouthfeel. Chocolate and tar, pecan and some caramel. Mid bitter finish. Solid. Delivering what I expected. Flawless.

Keg at Yardhouse, Houston. It pours darkest brown, near black with a sturdy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, plenty of toasted nuts, a good hit of coffee, treacle and cacao nibs. The taste is bitter, dry roasted malt, toasted nuts, earthy, pecan pie, chewy malt, coffee grounds, cocoa, fudge, toffee and a bit of alcohol. The finish is dry and toasty. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Could be done with a bit more depth, but it’s pretty decent anyhow.

Draught, smallish head, opaque black color, aroma of aromatic coffee, dark bread and mellow nutty backbone, flavor of nuts and coffee with earthy and green hints, smooth and easy to drink, light pleasant chocolate aftertaste. Very good and fun to drink, its reputation is deserved.

At JTC 10k tasting. Dark brown beer with nose of cholate and cola. Taste of cola, brown sugar, caramel, hints of pecan, earth, grainy maltiness. Nothing is overly pronounced flavor wise. Smooth

Draft - Coffee and nuts. Jet black with a thin beige head. Chocolate, coffee and a light nutty sweetness. Not sure how big pecans play a part but nice.
