Nearly black in color, (512) Pecan Porter is made with Organic US 2-row and copious amounts of Crystal malt, along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Its full body and malty sweetness are balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

Enjoyed on tap at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX while watching the new 300 movie, with that weird Eva Green sex scene. Appearance is a rich dark brown with a moderate white head. Aroma is nutty with hints of caramel, malty, sweet and decadent. Taste is great, nice rich porter with great pecan/hazelnut notes. Really nice one here.

Tap. Pours dark brown to black, small brown head, creamy, nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, nutty, ashtray. Flavor about the same, not much pecan. Full body, creamy.

Cask at the Ginger Man, Houston, 21/05/13. Mid black with a medium tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, vanilla, syrup, sugars, chocolate. Taste comprises pecan, roast malt, lactose, light chocolate notes. Medium bodied but a little on the thin/watery side - certainly for a 6.8% ABV beer, moderate carbonation, soft roast in the finish. Drinkable porter, let down by lack of body and no great depth of flavour, not one I’d look to in the future.

Draft @ Double Horn Brewing. Pours black with a half finger of nut brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasty pecans. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and pecans. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long coffee-chocolate finish. Overall, not bad. I would drink this again given the chance.

Location: Draft at Ginger Man- Austin, 2/17/12

Aroma: This one has a lot of roasted malts, plus some caramel and cocoa on the nose
Appearance: This one is a brown colored beer with a small light brown head
Flavor: The flavor is roasty and malty, not super sweet, with minimal bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly full on this one, and it has a dry, roasty mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This is a solid roasted porter, I didn't get a ton of pecan presence, I mostly got dry/roasty malts, but I still enjoyed it.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Pours a very dark brown with a medium creamy light tan head that lasts awhile leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted chocolate and nuts. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet roasted coffee flavor and nice lingering finish. Hides the alcohol well making it very drinkable. A very good Porter from (512).

Growler from slimchill! Pours black with a small grayish brown head. Aroma is full of dark grains with just a slight hint of pecan on the nose. Flavor again is full of dark grain and a bit of bitter chocolate with a slight bit of pecan in the aftertaste.

Growler thanks to thirdeye11. Pours with a black body and a tan head that fades. Aroma of roast, coffee and pecan. Taste is pecan and mocha. Pretty straight forward, but good porter. Light bubbles. A lot better use of pecans than Shiner...gawd.

Uncle Billy’s Brew & Que in Austin. The beer pours a dark brownish-black color with a medium light brown head that dissipates steadily. Patchy lacing on the glass. Light roasted malt aroma with a touch of coffee. Medium, soft body with flavors of malt, milk chocolate and mild coffee. Very little if any nutty character actually. The finish is malty with a light coffee bitterness left behind. Overall a decent Porter, but kind of a head-scratcher as to calling it a Pecan Porter. I know those nuts are expensive but this could have used more.
