Nearly black in color, (512) Pecan Porter is made with Organic US 2-row and copious amounts of Crystal malt, along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Its full body and malty sweetness are balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

Draft from draught house. Malty chocolatey and some coffee predominate. THe pecans really were quite tastable. Good stuff.

A: cloudy black, small, beige head.
A: fondant sauce, toast, espresso, pecan, tobacco.
T: sweetish fondant, pecan & brown bread.
F: earthy hops, toast, some ash.
P: medium body, slick texture, average carbonation.
Decent but I expected more (pecan) from this.

Nonic glass draft at the Thirsty Lion Gastropub in Irving, Texas. The pour is an opaque brown black with a well formed one inch khaki head. The aroma is soft roast, pecan nut, along with a bit of grass and pine. The taste is quite dry, char roast malt, pecan nut that has soft sweetness and finishes with more roast and a touch of mineral. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and the dry roast mineral, and a touch of lingering sweet to the finish. Nice.

Bottle. A- Slight sourness, roasty. A- Black color, black liquid, tan head. T- Roasty, nutty, dry, mild bitterness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, dry finish. O- About what I expected. Heavy roasty and nutty notes from the pecan but not much else. It really needed some sweetness or vanilla or something to balance it out. Very dry mouthfeel.

Toasty aroma. Flavor is malt sweetness with a little nutty taste. Not overly bitter. Expected more pecan flavor.

Draft at Haymaker in the Austin Airport in Austin, TX. Opaque nearly black color with a small dark beige head and good retention. Very nutty aroma. Taste is nutty too. Roasted and smooth. Heavy body and a thick mouthfeel. Has everything I want in a brown ale. The 6.8% ABV is mostly hidden, but you know it's there. Great beer.
